I shoot IDPA and there is a division called ESR that calls for revolvers reloaded by full moon clips. Plus the only two calibers I shoot are 9mm and 45 and when you shoot 10K+ rounds a year economy of caliber is a good thing. It is one fine revolver.

Did a little research to see what you're referring to, the "moon guns" looks like fun, but that whole rimless clip thing still turns me off. Even though the reloads look just as fast as a reg speed loader.

That looks like fun for squirrel poping with some #9 shot. We had a 22 revolver with the little snake shot shells we would use in the shop to shoot squirrels. Useless at 30 feet but perfect at 10!

But how much 000 buck could fit in a .410? 3-4?

Hi JB, Heres what the article says about the 3" 000 shells, and why the author thought it would be effective at short range.

"A long Judge will chamber a 000 load that delivers five pellets. At 70 grs., that would total 350 grs. of payload averaging 808 f.p.s. from the Judge痴 short snout. That equates to 508 ft.-lbs of energy. A single hit from a standard 230-gr. .45 ACP load is about 370 ft.-lbs. Also a centered hit from the five 000 pellets would impact over a larger area and produce five individual wound channels."

All true, but here is something else to think about, the 5 hits at 808 fps with the 70 grain projectile is about like getting hit with 5 rounds from a .32 ACP with FMJ ammo. I am not so sure you can compare that as so much more than 1 round from a good .45 ACP with a good expanding bullet. The wound channel from the .45 will deliver a lot of hydostatic shock, and in my "opinion" (and that is all it is,) I think the .45 will be a better fight stopper than the equivilant of 5 rounds of .32 acp with non expanding bullets. My name is not Fackler, or Marshall, so I dont really know, but that is my best first guess.

I would think that normal self defense ranges (I think I remember reading like less than 20 feet) there probably won't be more than a few inches of spread. With a group like that I'm pretty sure everything in side of the circle is going to be hamburger. I don't think stopping power is going to be a issue.

I don't own one and have no desire to own one, but I'll bet they are pretty effective at short distances.

Your probably right, God knows I sure would not want to stand in front of one, but I always think of an incident my father told me about that he saw up close and personal, on the street of a small southwest Mo. town, back in the 30's. He said he saw a man get shot 6 times with a .25 ACP of course loaded with FMJ ammo, and he said all of the bullets penetrated the heavy overcoat, then the man, then they all fell to the ground after going thru the man, and hit the inside of the back panel of the overcoat. The man staggered around on his feet for a minute or so than fell down dead. The moral of the story was don't mess with another mans wife, but non expanding bullets even en-masse are not great instant fight stoppers. Sure he died on the spot, but it took a while, and if he had been armed, well the results could have been different.

Especially with those flying discs and BB's combo ammo!

And they didn't have meth back then, if he was jacked up and the shooter was out of ammo, which he probably was, it could of gotten interesting.

guess I'm not up on laws. How can they offer a shotgun with a barrel length under 16"? I know the .410 is a bit of a loophole because they also fire .45s.

If the barrel is rifled it is defined as a pistol in the eyes of the BATF&E
