Really?
Post some ballistic information on the .410s stopping power verses other big calibers.
Like .357, .45ACP, .40, .44 Mag. and even .9mm

How about taking a round from it while standing in the guys bedroom doorway? That ought to be ballistic enough.

I'm not a fan of the Judge or even the concept, but at the end of the day it is a reasonable home/personal defense weapon. Most pistols are.

I guess you are not going to provide some man stopping ballistics either.

I don't know that I have ever seen a gun be as devisive as the Judge. It seems as though it is either hailed as the ultimate personal defense weapon or dismissed as an utter waste of steel and dollars. It's got to be up there with the "Love it/Hate it" of all things firearms.

I don't own one, but I would like to someday. I think that they are pretty neat weapons. I've gotten to shoot one that a friend has and it had a pretty good feel to it. He keeps his loaded with with 1 round bird shot, 2 rounds PDX (I think - is that the one with little discs and bbs), and 2 round 45 lc, and keeps it by his bedside.

I honestly have no idea how the .410 compares to .357 or .45acp or .44 mag (I'll assume unfavorably, at least in terms of sheer stopping/killing power). And I doubt that the spread of a .410 shot/PDX round is that great in a short distance, but I bet it's more than a single bullet. And of course, you could always be concerned about if you miss, where is your bullet going (I'm thinking of an apartment/duplex situation here).

I guess I would rather be shot with a .410 shotshell than a .357 magnum round, but I don't think I would enjoy being hit with either (and maybe that's why I don't go into people's homes unnannounced at 2:30 in the morning).

Whether or not you like the judge, I sure enjoy the debate that it has created.

Good luck and take care.

Good point, how about in an airplane? like for the air marshals?

I guess the use of particular types of bullets would be good for either home defense/close quarter combat/airline usage. I think there are frangible(?) bullets that disintegrate rather than deform when they hit something, so instead of going through a wall or door they might just dissipate, more or less. So that way, you could use your .357/.44/.45 without the fear of "overpenetration".

I really have no expertise in this field at all, so I'm just hypothesizing here.

Here, if any one is interested, can read up on a small portion of a good home defense ammo.
I think some peeps that think the Judge is a good home defense weapon, is because they don't want to practice with a better man stopping caliber weapon.
Get a good revolver and shoot the he ll out of it, semi autos work good also:cool:

I'll say it again, Local deputies argue(me too) that in the home, best defense gun is a shotgun, 2nd choice is a handgun. But any loaded gun is better than none. I make the distinction like this: Home defense, I am in my own element and know where everything is at(especially guns) criminal does not. Out in public, criminal is in his/her element usually- hence the cc gun. In my home shotgun is hard to miss with and I have a back up in the handgun. Of course, if I miss with the shotgun, I probably aint gonna get-em with a single bullet either.:ashamed:

No, I'm not.

I don't need to in order to support the position that a Judge is good home defense weapon. It has the capacity to kill humans at any distance found in the average home. That makes it a good home defense weapon. Not liking the design of it, or it's caliber(s), or the ballistics of its projectiles doesn't change the fact that it will kill you.

Your assertion that ballistics alone are the determining factor is something I find quite amusing. Continuing to hold that line as if your faith in it would stop the projectile(s) exiting the barrel of a Judge from hurting you, is even funnier.

By your logic, because I cannot post the relative torque and horsepower curves of my tractor, it is then incapable of being the right tool for the job.

Enjoy your cocoon of statistics. I'll keep the guns loaded and the lunatics at bay.

It is far better than a pointy stick for home defense, but the list of better choices could make a book.
That said, there is not a scenario where the Judge is the best choice for anyone shopping for a self defense weapon.

A lot of people choose to buy it for that role, but it is due to an effective marketing strategy and lack of knowledge of weapons and tactics from the consumer.

Interesting thread. I'm wanting a 410 pistol for snakes. I have other pistols and really don't want to carry them because of their weight. I want something lightweight, simple and effective.

Bond Arms Derringers

This seems to be what I'm wanting, but I've never seen one in person. Does anybody have any experience with this type of pistol? They seem very expensive for what you get, and I don't know why I want something so fancy, but then again, I don't have a clue what else is out there to compare to.

Thanks,
Eddie
