For anyone who is from this area I am sure you know the situation but for anyone else New York State Trooper Joseph A. Longobardo died yesterday from a gun shot wound he received in an ambush. His partner is in critical condition from the same ambush. Ralph "Bucky" Phillips is the suspected shooter.

What bothers me most about all of this is that he should have been arrested months ago but the stupid people in this county kept thinking of him as some sort of a hero and was helping him evade capture. One woman even commended him for when he shot State Trooper Brown that he only shot to wound him. She said that at least "Bucky" had enough respect for human life to only wound the trooper and not kill him. Now one officer is dead and the other is close to it.

Trooper Longobardo has a wife and 13 month old son.

I was talking to a couple officers yesterday and they just want this over with. The feelings around here now is that if someone runs into Ralph Phillips and was to kill him the Troopers would not care. I do not see this ending peacefully anymore as Phillips is facing life in prison for murdering a State Trooper.

I do hope this ends soon before any other Troopers are hurt.

I hope whoever kills Phillips gets a medal.

I got an 18 month old. It's hard enough for kids as it is, much less with daddy gone.

Society has become soft on cop killers as they have with other crimes. I believe this is done because they feel a member of their family might commit a crime and they do not want their family members punished. In Texas we had a trooper shot while trying to assist another downed officer. The suspect shot four officers in all. Standing around watching the situation unfold were hundreds of people. Some were even on their roofs with their children watching this guy shoot it out with police. Luckily no officers died. The suspect ended up being a coward and taking his own life.

When a person shoots a trooper, or any officer, he is rebelling against society. He is even rebelling against the same ones that may call them a hero. If someone believes a hero is someone who ambushes a cop then they have severe mental problems. Heroes keep this county safe; not take its citizens' lives.

The NY shooter deserves the MAXIMUM PUNISHMENT NY allows. The ones who harbor the shooter and call him a hero deserve the same fate.

My sympathy goes out to the trooper's family and friends. Just remember the shooter will be judged twice and I would not want to be standing in front of the second judge if I was the shooter or his allies.

My thoughts go out to the family and friends, my hopes go to a SPEEDY capture and execution for the killer! "Kill an officer, get the chair!"

Good one, I completly agree. Sad day when a good guy looses to a bad guy in any part of the country.

Hopefully, for the taxpayers of NY, Bucky will decide to not be taken alive. If I was a NY taxpayer I would be happy to pay for the max jail time for those who harbored him. Publicize the "harborers" max sentences.

Unfortunetly liberal New York State does not have a death penalty. They should have public hangings for cop killers and I'll be glad to build the gallows and pull the trap door. This ...hole is going to walk out of the woods with his hands up, into the arms of some news camera and we're going to have to babysit him for the rest of his natural days. Giving him food, shelter and the best medical care. If life in prison is all we got then it should be in a dark hole with no chance of ever seeing day light or a light bulb. And when he gets sick let him stay sick until he dies from it, even if it takes years. There's not enough evil things we can do to Bucky to make up for the life he's taken, and the familes of the other Troopers that he has changes forever.

And I'm sure Bucky's defenders will start singing how he was abused, never had money, did not get an education since he was poor, he has diminished mental capacity, etc to show it was not really his fault.

We had a trooper and a deputy murdered on I95 years ago. The killers where two brothers who after they executed the officers, they where chased, crashed a car, and ran into the woods. Surprisingly they where brought out alive. The troopers did it by the book. I know they case was in the courts forever even though there was no if and or buts about who did what. They where sentenced to death. But since the supremes bone headed decision that its wrong to execute killers under the age of 18 one of the killers has been sentenced to life. The judge did not like changing the sentence at all.

Understanding our so called justice system is very simple. Its called Criminal Justice. Don't forget that for a second.

Later,
Dan
