That is simply terrible!!:( :(

But do I feel sorry for you ???:D

My Doctor has informed me, no coffee, tea, chocholate or alcohol!:( :( :(

And I dearly loved my morning coffee. In fact I beleive Thomas and myself brewed at the same time in the morning.:D :D

A tin can, wood fire in the backyard, coffee grounds and you should be all set.:D :D :D

Boil water in a pan and mix in grounds. Pour the contents through a paper filter into your cup and enjoy. I love coffee so much that I think I'd pour it through an old dirty sock if I had to.:D

Never resorted to a dirty sock, but I have boiled coffee in a can over an open fire and drank it using the toothies for a strainer.

Boil coffee in a pot, put in a little cold water and the grounds will sink with it to the bottom. Well, most of them will and what's a little grit with your caffeine?

That's why we have a French press.....it makes a good cup of coffee and serves as a fine backup for those 2-3 day periods between a coffemaker dying and the replacement arriving. There are also 2 and 1 cup presses. I have a 2 and a 1, work great.

like the others said "cowboy coffee" boil in a pot, then take off fire, and add crushed egg shells from your breakfast. They'll filter the grounds and take out the bitter. Still a bit gritty -- but hey ..

You beat me to it :D I keep a french press for when I only want a cup of coffee.

I also have a stovetop espreso pot that work on the kitchen stove, camp stove, and even my backpacking MSR Whisperlite stove:D

I use my countertop espresso machine most every day though; I am a chocoholic, and must have my cafe mocha in the morning.

Funny, for my first 30 years, I did not like coffee; after having my first mocha, I started to drink coffee too. The last 14 years, there's always been some kind of coffee once or twice daily.

I am a caffeine/coffee addict. One full 10 cup pot per day but no caffiene after noon. I actually drink caffeine free soda after noon. In bad situations such as when on a fishing trip or vacation or during some other emergency when coffee is not being brewed I have stooped to caffeinated soda pop for my fix. Without the fix I will be nursing a headache for sure.

You can buy coffee bags which are like tea bags but coffee. These work pretty well. Good for emergencies. Microwave the water in your cup.

Instant coffee granules are actually quite good and I keep some leaded and unleaded crystals on hand since sometimes even an evening cup of joe is good but I don't want the caffeine.

I have brewed gallons and gallons of cowboy coffee using the cold water trick (never heard of eggshells!!!) to drop the grounds to the bottom somewhat. Keep a close eye on a pot of water and grounds boiling. It will boil over and make a mess. Do this on a fire, rangetop, or even a hot woodstove.

This caffeine addiction is a weakness. I admit it. A weakness. But Oh so good.

For Boy Scout campouts, we have a Coleman drip coffee pot. We drink lots of coffee in camp:eek: It works on the stovetop; we use 3 burner campstoves. It would work on pretty much any stove, although I don't think it would heat well on an electric stove.

I think it is a 12 cup. Here is an article on it:

My Doctor has informed me, no coffee, tea, chocholate or alcohol!

That would the last words my doctor would ever speak to me...looks like it's time for a new doctor.

Wait a week, and all these things will be good for you again. Actually

Copy some of these and send them to your doc. I stopped listening to doctors years ago. I went to three doctors for different opinions and all gave me a different pill to take - I NEVER take pills anyway. The fourth doctor told me if I had taken the pills the other three quacks told me to take, he said he would be replacing my liver right now. I have many more stories of bad advice from docs.

Want a drug that could lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer? That could lift your mood and treat headaches? That could lower your risk of cavities?

Afternoon Jim,
I think it depends whos' sock it was !

Actually I remember my grandma up on the farm making coffee on the stove, wood powered stove that is, with the old style percolator with the glass bulb on top ! :) Of course I was never allowed to have more than a sip ! ;) What would she think of me now if she new I put a dash of Jack Daniels in there when the need arose ? ;)

I guess I've heard of the egg shell method for many years, but never tried it. However, I've certainly boiled coffee in a can on an open fire, then dropped a spoonful of cold water in it to settle the grounds; works quite well.

And the instant coffee ain't bad, if you use the right amount or ratio of coffee to water, and the right amount is usually quite different from the instructions on the container.:D

And Egon, if I were you, I'd just have to find a different doctor.;) This reminds me of an uncle I had who played golf almost every day for many, many years (a major part of his job was entertaining customers). So when he had a heart attack, his doctor told him to quit playing golf. So he changed doctors; went to one he frequently played golf with.:D

Scotty, I tried that many, many years ago. In my opinion, it ruined both the coffee and the whiskey.:D

I LOVE the smell of fresh coffee. Unfortunately, I can't get past the taste. I'm a cold caffine in the morning sort of guy. Used to be a Coke, nowdays it's Diet Pepsi. One on the way to work every day. That does the trick.

We have a coffee maker and all the goods on hand just in case my mother-in-law comes over. As long as there's a coffee cup pressed to her lips, she's not saying anything. Have all the coffee you like MOM. ;)

I gotta say if this is the worst thing that life does to you in a day then consider yourself fortunate.

My favorite coffee percolator of all times was a clear pyrex glass percolator my mother used to have. I'd sit and watch the hot water go up that center glass tube (I'm sure there's a name for it...stem?). I was fascinated to watch the water heat up and suddenly burst upwards into the lid and back down over the grounds. The only metal parts were the filter basket and a metal ring around the pot that held the handle on. If I ever see one of those at a flea market, I'll buy it for sure. I'm easily entertained.

Did you ever buy the wrong grind of coffee for the type of percolator you own? When they came out with drip grind vs. regular grind, you always had to be careful if you had one of those old percolators.:p

If I ever find a percolator that sounds like the one in the Maxwell House TV commercials, I'm gonna buy that one.:D

I used to like the smell of fresh brewed coffee too, but didn't like to drink it.

I found, after decades of not liking coffee, it was more the coffee I had tried. Whatever my Mom and Grandma did to that poor Folgers, it was aweful. They used to make it in a 26 cup commercial percolater. It was like 26cups of espresso(8oz cups, not the foofy 2oz cups...)

I found that I like coffee, although it is a somewhat acquired taste. After starting with Mocha espresso drinks, I started drinking regular coffee. I like a dark roast. I also found, with the Espresso machine at home, I like to make Espresso and Mocha with various beans besides Espresso roast...

This one does the trick for me every morning:
Jura Capresso E8 Espresso Machine-Jura Capresso Impressa Super-Automatic Espresso Machines

It is indeed a sad day when I have to fix that one. Makes *very* good cup of coffee or shot of espresso, though.

As backup, I have a drip coffee maker, 10 cup (bring it out when my mother in law comes to visit, as she can't figure out my main one). Also have a 4 cup for the camper, a french press for the days when the electricity is out, and a cup at a time drip (no heater) for back packing.
