My Doctor has informed me, no coffee, tea, chocholate or alcohol!

My condolences.

This is my baby. I drink very little espresso in the summer...usually 2-3 cups of drip brewed. In the winter I drink mostly Americanos, which is a double shot of espresso and brewed coffee mixed. I LOVE my coffee. Have probably had 35-40 varieties over the past 8-10 years determining what I like best. Now I keep Kona extra fancy, Blue Mountain from Kauai (the same bean grown in Jamaica is radically different), Guatemalan Organic, and usually one more of 3-5 different varieties I like to blend in from time to time. I buy whole beans of the first two from Hawaii, and get the others from a coffee wholesaler/roaster in Cincinnati. Whole beans freeze very well (vacuum packed) and I grind nearly every day. I can adjust the blend to my tastes any given day....the Blue Mountain is very bold, awesome initial presentation, strong finish, great aroma. The Kona is light on presentation but finishes incredibly smoothly, and has some very subtle tones. The Guatemalan has the best dark chocolate tones I've ever found in coffee....by itself it's just ok, but it blends with many things really well. It's one of the main components in my espresso blend.

In the winter we have people stop by who will candidly tell us they came by hoping for fresh coffee.

I've given up a number of things in the last year to comply with my doctor's advice, but he is not getting my coffee. Not happening. Of course that's real easy to say when I haven't been told I need to give it up.

Happy Days are here again, Ace Hardware had a sale on off brand coffee makers a few years ago at $ 5 each, I bought 2 and we are back to our morning ritual of coffee drinking, It's amazing how a cup of coffee can be so addicting to most of us

Hey, MrJimi, glad your back among the living. I was going to suggest putting one of the coffee/filter things under your hat (sort of a giant caffeine patch) till you found a new coffee maker. Maybe Folgers or someone ought to come out with individual pouches (like the snuff pouches with skoal) for coffee drinkers.

I drink up to 2 pots a day from 4 in the mornin til bed at night.I slack off about an hour before bed to avoid getting up for nature calls. People wonder how i get so much energy at work,even after a 13 hour shift handling lumber all day.My secret is im cranked up on caffene Funny part is when my head hits the pillow at night ,im gone til mornin.Whats funny is although i dont drink,each mornin when i get up ,i feel hung over til i get the coffee buzz going again

The problem with the caffeine addiction is that you can never really sleep in because you get awakened by the headache. Then it takes extra time to make the headache go away. Maybe that's not a problem, early bird gets the worm.

The other problem is when you get called in or summoned for some emergency like when our rivers flood. I've filled sand bags through the night and was unable to find coffee or pop. Major headache, almost crippling by 10 AM.

Yes, in a pinch the cold caffeine from an oddly antifreeze colored beverage is just the thing needed to keep the headache monsters away. I could easily do like escavader and go through two pots but my big ol' stanley thermos plus a cup only holds one.

I'm like Alan and drink coffee all day long. Maybe at least 2 pots? lol ... It beats drinking 2 pots of whiskey like I used to do 15 years ago. Talk about headaches Joe. Although I didn't have too much trouble going to sleep back then.

I also have that Coleman camp stove coffee maker. It's been working great for 3 years now. Although I've melted some of the plastic up top on it now. Just don't touch the base of it! I've made my share of cowboy coffee too, and the eggshells do seem to work. Or maybe I just don't know the difference anymore?

IMO, it's best to keep a spare coffee maker (or two) for emergencies in case yours breaks down.

I've often wondered about coffee keeping people awake. As long as I could remember, the last thing my Dad did before going to bed at night was to have a final cup of coffee (didn't use decaffinated either).

My wife and I have been married over 42 years, but as long as I've known her, she drinks coffee from the time she gets up in the morning until she goes to bed at night.

Until I retired, I was spending most of my time at a desk in an office and I drank coffee from the time I got up in the morning until I left the office about 5:15 p.m. each day. But for quite a few years now, I only drink coffee from the time I get up until about noon. Then I change to cold drinks; frequently sipping iced tea until bedtime.

ACTUALLY i make a pot at 4 am drink 1 cuptake 1 in travel mug[35 minute commute] and fill my thermos .At 9.00 break guys skip up to store ,get me a big cup,again at 2.00 and again at 5.00 break.Thats a pot plus 3-24 oz ers.Plus i drink a diet pepsi for lunch,thats got caffene .I think the planer mill crew likes to keep me cranked up cause ill run around like a chicken with my head cut off all day.We wont tell them the lazyer i am the slower the boards come out,they are only hurting themself

Yesterday our coffee maker quit working, now what ( Proctor Silex ) ? what am I to do without our morning wake upper?

I read all the posts. I can't believe no one suggested getting that clown down most streets to brew you some morning coffee. I have heard that McDonalds place has been voted best coffee? Heck, while your there you can get a gourmet breakfast.

P. S. I like coffee a lot. Over the years I would guess I have had coffee in 90% ot the diners in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. My most favorite meal is hot roast beef sandwich with mashed and gravey. Finish off with home made pie and coffee. The old diners always had good hot beef and pie. Good coffee???

I like your coffee. Used to order it from Cafe du Monde all the time. Got out of the habit.

My MIL doesn't like it. She says don't fix any of that coffee with chickweed in it. Wish I could find some chickweed . . . .

And those good ole diners, my best man at our wedding worked at one in Biddeford, Maine a long time ago, it was called the Palace Diner and it was a converted train car done in stainless steel inside, nice and quaint
