Safely transporting a pet

   / Safely transporting a pet #32
Years ago while bike touring in New Mexico, we stayed over night at a rancher's guest house. Our English Cockers were running along side us. The next morning, the rancher took us across 10 miles of tire eating thorn invested road to pavement. Bikes in the back of his truck, us in the cab. Dogs in the back also, but only space was on top of his across bed tool boxes. Said his dogs rode there all the time. Wife worried the whole way. Dogs made it ok, but we were afraid of them sliding off. Jon
Back in the day...hot tar roofing in Louisiana. I was like those dogs, laying up on top of the tool box in the back of the work truck while we heading home...usually dozing...for the 5 years I worked there.

It was the coolest, least cramped place in the truck. Never considered the risk of sliding off or worse, an accident.

Sometimes surprised we actually survived the invincibility of youth...

Depends on the dog.

We had a couple of GSDs that would just lay down in the back. Didn't need to do anything with them. If we were moving, they settled in for the ride.

Other dogs were more comfortable in the crate.
