Mark,
I agree...the way gsxr came across hit me as being over the line. These forums are as much about asking questions as they are about getting/giving answers. Junkman is usually doing the answering, so when I saw he had a question, I though maybe I could learn something too.
(Didn't realize WHAT it was I was gonna' learn though /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

I know of no-one's opinion on TBN that I respect more than Junkman's. I see no reason for gsxr to be so "arrogant"...but then, to each their own I 'spose. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

A stupid question is one that is never asked. Look at it another way, new members here might think if they ask a question that has been asked or answered before and someone snaps back at them then they are not going to be so inclined to post. Junk merely posted a question just like anyone else here does and his question deserves an honest answer less the attitude. Most of the time he is helping countless people. (like myself)

TBN is also a search engine of sorts itself. Where else can you come to find such a collective mass of information about tractors and equipment?

It's also very hard to know a persons actual feelings by posts alone. Try a count to ten guys. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To all:

The question was general in form. Ask a general questions and get a general answers. Ask specific…..you get the idea I hope.

Example: How do you change a tire? Do you want the general process (take off tire and re-install, then tighten lugs) or do you want the dummy version or the “can’t screw it up version”. Since it was not specified in the original question I do not know.

Again it was not arrogant or “over the line” as some say. Again why are you asking since I take it you are asking because of a reason. What are you looking for? Be specific since the answers can vary a great deal.

Is that a “kind and gentle answer”? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, I guess I'm fairly thick skinned. I love all the information I can glean from this site, both good advice and bad. I have an old uncle who is really a nice guy, but when you first meet him you want to deliver a right hook to him. He just comes across as, well, as a jerk.

I think gsxr is probably okay. He just has this phobia of Walmart. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm sort of guilty of ragging him about that. I think he has a sense of humor, but sometimes comes across a bit more gruff than intended. And, maybe not. Maybe he thinks I'm a jerk for ragging him about what he is missing at Walmart. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Since I have 5 small children at home, I've learned to temper my answers to all questions. Sometimes I get the same question 20 times in the same hour! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif But hey, I still don't know who is who on Sponge Bob Square Pants! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, they are free with every case of shot-gun shells you buy! I am kidding here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do not think so.... I am serious here.

Okay, I've been to Wal-Mart. I've browsed each isle in their automotive oil department. I buy my AC Delco filters for my Suburban there, and the Motorcraft filters for my Town Car there along with mah earl (my oil). I have not specifically asked, but, no, I don't believe they have oil test kits.

Wal-mart will never carry them, ever. The demand needs to be high and I guess 1 in every 20,000 might have asked...if ever.

Also most whine about the price of mid synthetic and then throw in a oil tests kit for $15, ya right!

Go to Blackstone, Amsoil, Cat, International, Cummins etc will have them. They are between $12 to $25

If you use Rotella synthetic from Walmart, and a gallon costs approximately $14 including sales tax, that means that it is $3.50 per quart. My Kubota uses approximately 5 quarts of oil with a filter change. The filter from the dealer is $8 including tax. If I change the oil and filter the total cost is $17.50 for the oil plus the $8 filter = $25.50. Now if I change the oil every 50 hours, it will cost me $25.50 plus 30 minutes (I don't work fast) of time twice a year. If I take a oil sample and send it off to the lab, it will cost me $25 plus the $25.50 for the oil change to know that the next time, I can probably go an additional 25 hours before changing the oil. That mean that the first oil change is going to cost me $50.50 and the second is going to be the same, because I will need to know this information again about the oil condition. Assuming that all is well, and I can again go 75 hours, the total for 150 hours of lubrication of the engine is going to be $101.00. If I change it at the 50 hour mark and it cost me $25.50 each time, the 150 hours worth of oil changes are going to cost a total of $76.50. Please tell me where the savings are with oil testing on small engines. I can see this if I was doing oil changes on a large diesel that used 15 or 20 quarts, but not on a small tractor engine. Is my logic flawed???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
