Sand blasting

How do you use these personal units? Can you sweep up the media and use it again?

Yes you can - probably need to screen it though before re-use.

I think most materials become finer after a handful of uses, not a problem for many jobs but if you're doing really pitted, scaley rust new is better and quicker.

I have never used sand. I think the primary concern is the threat of silicosis. I use Black Beauty, a slag product which comes in different grades. I have also used walnut shells when blasting softer materials where I didn't want to create a rough, pitted surface. I think sand may also be more susceptible to clumping from moisture.

Hi i'am out in oklahoma and new on this board..i'am looking for some slag for a drive way we live out in the country and have a quarter mile drive..saw your post on slag(black beauty)as you call it..know of anyone in Oklahoma that might have it or know where to find it?thanks!

I have used sand and plastic media.

Sand removes rust better, but plastic media takes off paint better.

If you reuse the sand it works, but not as well the second or third time as the sharp corners of the sand get dull.

I think you can find sand by looking up sandblasting in the phone book.

Never sand blast aluminum.

I bought mine at harbor freight years ago, the first thing that gave out was the chincey ball valve.

I was in the store a month or so after that and up in the front of the store I found this. Search results for: 'deadman' works so much better.
