Im looking for my first tractor! I found a Satoh beaver with a FEL, good shape, 4x4, less than 1000hrs. Year unknown-its white & blue, with a chrome exhaust cover, any ideas? He says its 16 pto hp is that right? Its a 2cyl. engine.Does this tractor have a good rep. And hows the parts availibility?

Chopper,
I cannot provide you with any info on the Beaver. However, I have been offered a Satoh 650 to cut my 6 acres. Have you found any good web sites or info on this manufactor? I have never heard of this brand and I'm unsure of available parts?
Thanks,

Which Beaver is it... Original, I, II, or II S372...etc.
{assuming original}
Mitsubishi-Satoh Beaver 4WD, Mfr. 1977-81, 15 HP Engine, 41 cid, 1256 lbs., Last fact. price $3,520.

No PTO HP rating was published, but I'd guesstimate between 10-12 PTO HP with a 41 cid, 2 cylinder engine. Seen a few parked along side the roadway for years apparently not running...

When you get below the 15-16 PTO HP range, you are severely limiting yourself to it's usefulness on multiple implements...

The Beaver may actually have been the first sub-compact tractor as we now know the Kubota BX series to be. The difference is Kubota did their homework a little better and sized the engine accordingly.

Bottom line... I feel the Beaver is much too underpowered to be classified as a tractor versus a lawn mower with a 3-pt hitch attached...

edkick,

I have a Satoh S650G and it's a can do unit. What kind of price is on it and what area... maybe it's my older Satoh. {picture attached}

I have it at my father's house, and brush hog his property ~ 5 acres of fields with a 4' rotary cutter.

Parts are outrageous... so don't break anything.

Satoh was Mitsubishi's ticket to compact tractors in the US market. Uses a Mazda 4 cylinder gas engine with 22.5 PTO HP.

That Beaver picture looks the same, what year is that one? Someone asked if its air cooled, not the one I looked at. Do you know anything about a Ford 1100? Theres one of them there also, about the same price & shape. It has a FEL only.840hrs on the clock. He told me its an early 80s with 13 pto hp. 2cyl. engine , which is the better machine?

Ya, thats all we need is more cars. As it is we have room for about two cars in the parking lot.
I have not been down to the Tractor store in a wile, nothing has broke yet. Plus I have been building a shed, and that has been takeing most of my tractor time.

They are water cooled,I had one for 17 years.

Parts are exspensive and pretty hard to come buy,there are some salvage yards that deal in them,and there is a place in PA that imports there parts called "Stull enterprises".

I own a Mitsubishi MT372D that is the same as the Satoh you are looking at.It is a 15hp , 2 cylinder deisel that is water cooled . It is the best investment I could have made to help me with my chores . It handles a 48" belly mower great . It handles a 48" brush cutter great . It handles a 48" box blade great . I don't know how it would handle a FEL , but my guess would be it will do fine with in its size limits . I have needed very few parts since I bought mine , but can tell you that parts prices are kind of steep . Most parts are available from many dealers that post on this site and the Yanmar site . I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if it is in good shape and hasn't been abused . It will last you many many years if you give it normal maintenance attention . Get a service and parts manual . They are available thru many dealers here .
Where is it located ? What are they asking for it ? What kind of loader is on it ? What type of tires does it have ? That was a fairly popular tractor in its time and there are quite a few of them around yet . What do you intend to do with the tractor ?
Sorry for the long post , but I am a Mitsubishi tractor fan . Very nice tractors !!
Almost forgot to tell you..........check to be sure it has a standard size pto shaft that turns clockwise . They made the Satoh with a 22mm counter clockwise rotating pto for a few years . I had one of those too but couldn't find any implements that would run backwards . If you only want it for the FEL thats a different story ,but would definately drop the value of that unit . Let me know if you need any more info .
