You should have an electric or 12volt pump in your tank get a double filter system to make sure fuel is clean and drain off the water often .. if your tank was clean to start you should have little problems .we run off-road with this setup
and have had no problems to the point that we have ran it in our truck. remember there is no dif. in fuels reg diesel off-road ,and home heating is all the same theren is no high sulfur anymore its all low.. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

There are many TBN members here including myself that run their tractors on off-road diesel without problems from the fuel. It sounds to me like you should be getting your diesel from another supplier, plain and simple. Sorry that you had the problem.

milkman - not in reference to your source, but just a few years back a local gentleman had a Bulk dealership, several gas/diesel stations and operated a furnace installation/repair business. Quite often he coverted a residence from fuel oil to natural gas. He always purchased the remaining fuel oil for pennies and sold it as diesel at his stations. Some of it must have been old oil.

The only positive thing that came out of it is that he is currently serving time at the Federal pen. lost his empire and went bankrupt. The Feds got him as he was installing furnaces for Elderly home owners under some type assistance program and gave them junk when he was paid for installing a good quality furnace.

He also got some extra time for trying to hire an undercover cop in a local jail, to break the knee caps of the local sheriff. A long story, but evidence that their are bums/crooks everywhere including the sale of diesel. Who wouldv'e thunk it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're right, I think I got ripped on the price and the quality. Speaking of crooks, our govenor just pardoned all involved in a hiring practice scandal, who'd have thought. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Never heard that one before. Sounds like an engineer in CYA mode. One of the attractions to diesel is that you can store it for lot longer periods that gasoline, a lot, lot longer if you take certain precautions.

It sounds as if the original poster just got some dirty or contaminated fuel and needs to get another supplier or, if that is his only choice, give up on using off-road. Once you get that dirty stuff in the system, it is sometimes a real pain to get it out. I got some black/dark brown flaky stuff and goop in mine and, to cut a long story short, ended up having to get a new fuel tank. You can bet that there is nothing that goes into my tractor now that isn't filtered, at least once.

The storage was the point.

Hey EastTexFrank,
When you say proper precautions, what do you mean? What should I be doing if I'd like to store diesel for more than 1 month to 6 months at a time? Is this even a good idea? Thanks. -art
