During the Daytona 500. Just caught the tail end so I didn't see the particular name(s) on the oil containers but the ad was about 3 new Mobile auto oil products rated at 5000, 7500 & 15000 mile oil change intervals.

Wonder if it is the Mobile1 brand w/additional additives and if so, what could they add to increase the life of a synthetic oil inorder to increase it's lifespan by 10k miles?

Yes , I just recently read that Mobil 1 was gonna be chasing after Amsoil on the extended drain period.
I guess Mobil wants some of that bussiness.

An article in the Star (Mercedes Benz) magazine was about Mobil 1. One dealer said they were telling customers to change oil at 13,000 miles, as then they hoped that no one would go above 15,000.

This year is Mobil 1's 30 anniversary. In an article in an EM magazine, they say that Mobil 1 gives 4% hp and fuel economy improvement. I was figuring on 3% from my records.

The race car drivers started using it because of both fuel economy and hp increases.

It’s been my understanding that for some time it’s been the filter elements and not the oil that has limited change intervals when running synthetic. For the past couple of years I’ve been running an extended life filter in my car. Mann is the manufactuerer and the filter is good for 2 years or 30,000 clicks (18,641 miles). Although I’ve been changing both filter and oil, Mobil1, out at 7,500 mile intervals. My results have been quite good so far, 200,000 plus miles on my Jetta and she is still running strong, I fully expect to run her up to 350 to 400k. As for oil make I’ll probably stick with Mobil1 but would consider a synthetic from Shell or Elf in the future, as all three do a nice job of holding 19000+ rpm F1 engines together. Sorry for talking cars in a tractor forum but I don’t take delivery of my new tractor till the 25th. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It is a new oil as I have read and not the old with just more adds. I find it VERY funny that Mobil dropped there extended oil drains about 15+ years ago. Then they pushes very HARD the "do not go longer on drains".

Now they are pushing extended drains..Amsoil or Redline must be cutting into there bottom line.

I believe the price is about $30 for a 6-qt pack. Too much for this oil when you can only go up to 15K. Again the loophole is the “up to 15K”and I can get Amsoil and go “up to 25K” or 40% longer.

There ZDDP is low (P is 900ppm) and Zn about 1,000 ppm. Also there is no Energy Conserving on the bottle for what tha is worth. So I guess there are counting on the Ca and there high boron levels for the longer drains. Weird.

Saw it yesterday in Wally World right next to a shelf full of Mobil 1. I can't remember the price but I didn't fall over ;so it must not have been to bad...
I did not see any of the "standard" mobil oil in the royal blue bottle.

I asked some Walmart junkies here and they said it was over $5.XX there.

Hopefully Mobil, Shell and some other mainstream oils will get a good line of synthetics and put Amsoil out of business. If a person didn't have to deal with the "pyramid scheming" rip off Amsoil and such it would make using synthetic alot easier. Just the thought of having to pay a company $20 or $30 just to let you buy their product at a cheaper price is ridiculous to me.

BMW has had there normal oil change interval as 15000 miles or once a year since 2000 using there BMW brand synthetic. Probably just a one up on Mercedes 13000 as hardly anyone in eorope would drive 15000 in a year.

Well cowboy, you could “think” it is a pyramid scheming but it called MLM. A lot of companies do that Bose, Weber grills etc. Even Agway does it. It is called reality and it happens more then you know it.

Will Amsoil go under, doubtful. Shell is not even a factor and Mobil with its extended drains will only be good if they are priced much lower then Amsoil and people use it up to the “high price” vs miles.

I would not buy it since there oil analysis test does not look that great and the price is too high (for what you get or called added benefit). I can get Amsoil that can go 40% longer at the same price…

It is comical at best. Mobil is back to almost where it was 15 years ago.
