Empirical data/reading is the source.

Using the search functionality on this forum/board, my 5 years on this forum I have seen/read many threads. See how many people even do what they manual states, not many. Most are draining before there “recommend drains”.

Example here since you might need one. If you follow the manual (for example again) on my BX22 you can go 1 year on dino oil and every OTHER year on oil filters. And how many do that????

Another one is using the search fuction on other forums and just read how many do the 3 or 5K drain. Or go to BITOG, or any forum with auto. I would have to say over half do not even know what is recommend for there drains and they would be surprised on how soon they are doing it.

Also take a look at MB and BMW drains. My wifes is 10K.

No source needed since it looks pretty clear .

or you could call any quick lube place or garage and see what they say. And it is not the miles in your book either.

No problem. Glad to help /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is a lot more out there on this issue but we are all grown ups here so we can all do the same research.

So back to the original thread topic, Mobil is almost back to where it was about 15+ years ago on extended drains. Way to go Mobil....

( The filters in the past were not great on capacity but very good on efficiency. It is a trade off and you need look at what you want. You can't have a filter go down to 1 micron at a 99% efficiency, not gonna happen. )

( Plus I do not know if the filters back then had the anti-drain valve in them. )

Mike, in these at least we are in agreement. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Milkman I think these guys pretty much covered it.........

Yes, indeed after 15 years of continuous R&D Mobil has finally gotten back to Square1. (Cheesy pun intended /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) It seems that it's not only the quick lube companies that have learned, if you scream something long enough and loud enough people will start to believe you. LMAO.

Well you know MikePA I've done my own research on tbn with my five years of being here, bitog, and other websites and I read the """scientific""" research much different. After reading everyone's """opinion""" on 3000 mile oil changes I have not read of one case where an engine failed prematurely. Therefore based on this "scientific" web surfing information it must be true that 3000 mile oil changes are far superior to synthetic oil. And since I read it on a web forum it must be true. Ref., peer reviewed research, published info. means nothing man it's all about the web surfing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Cowboy, did I even post anything about “engine failed prematurely”. I just stated, yet again, ( ( Example here since you might need one. If you follow the manual (for example again) on my BX22 you can go 1 year on dino oil and every OTHER year on oil filters. And how many do that????) ). )

I also have not read or found anyone that had “engine failed prematurely” by doing extended drains (using a real synthetic) if following the oil manufactures instructions (much sooner). It can go both ways my friend.

So to close, doing drains at 3,000 are proven to do nothing or doing drains before what is “recommended” does nothing unless you use a very cheap oil. That is a fact if you some homework. I can't post all the data since I can't hold everyone’s hand all the time.

Most people to not even do what is recommended in the manual. So as what I have stated long before, doing/going longer then what is outlined in the manual will do nothing if you use a real synthetic oil (group 4 and 5. Not a 3). Also I am one of the select few that has even posted an oil test #’s.

You can show me papers still you are blue in the face, but I will take raw data (oil tests) over these paper any day! Since these are real Empirical (observation or experience) data
