I am a dog person . There has been very few times we didn't have a dog . But I also know strays and dumped dogs can become a problem. I have pulled a dog off a guy that got 250 stitches from the attack. When I was about 20 I was at a field trial a couple of punks were bragging about their dog being mean . The were offerings to bet money on the fact no one could get him out of the kennel. There was 20 $100 Bill's laid on the table to bet I could get him out of the kennel.
I says this for a reference point that I know my way around aggressive dogs. An adult that hasn't dealt with aggressive dogs is in trouble a child doesn't have a chance . There are people that live places that don't have to deal with strays and the damage the can do need to shut the H*[[ up or come deal with the problem if you don't like how we have to resolve the problem. I take no joy in having to kill a stray animal they are just trying to survive. I would prefer to deal with the _________s that abandoned animals that they get then drop them in the country because they find out are more work to take care. They are to lazy to deal with them properly. I have had to hunt both cats and dogs . A lot of times helping animal control. If you have a problem with that tough either shutt up and go fix the problem in a way that suits you or shut up . Unless you have had a family member or friend chewed up a hog calf or horse killed by dogs or your flock of layers destroyed by feral animals. You have no business complaining how those of us that have deal with the problem

The controversy was killing all strays on sight, not when they caused a problem. Living on a farm we had many stray dogs and only had to put one down

"Just because you're daughter got tore up"!! Are you freaking nuts?? The little girl spent weeks in the hospital, may never walk without a limp again, and the dad is a dick for shooting another stray????

The dad is a dick for shooting any stray on sight on his property. I get it, he's pissed and he's scared. I also get the fact that since he's afraid, he is legally within his means to do so if the animal is on his property. That said, doesn't make what he will do right.

I missed it, where did I say I value the life of child over the life of a dog?

Bullet is more humane than starving or having coyotes eat them alive. I have heard cats caught by coyotes a few times it isn't pretty. Sooner or later a feral animal is going to cause issues . Then you talking about someone who had a child severely injured by a dog , again if you haven't been there you have no business complaining about them. To many bleeding hearts setting in towns or cities that don't have to deal with problems feral animals cause whining about how the people who do have to deal with it handle the issues.

The point being, and its unfortunate, pitts have become the assault rifle of the dog world. Neither should be left unattended, in the hands of children, or in possession by a felon, mentally ill person, etc... that probably should be said about any dog large enough to cause fatal human trauma, but statistically, pitts stick out more than 6:1 over the next highest breed when it comes to human fatalities.

If pitts were a firearm, they'd be recalled. If they were firestone tires, they'd be recalled. If they were airbags, they'd be recalled. I can't see a reason for anyone to logically own one, other than adopting one from the shelter out of kindness to live out its days in peace and not propagating the breed any further.

Before anyone buys a protection breed dog, at least have a fenced yard for it, exercise it daily, keep them in you're control at ALL times, keep it away from people that don't know the dog and be ready to spend money getting it professionally trained.. Otherwise do us all a favor and don't bother..

IMO, all dogs need to be trained, either professionally or by an owner who knows what they are doing.
Letting any dog think that it's the boss over humans is a recipe for trouble.

I agree. And it seems the worst offenders are owners of "lap dogs".

Friend of mine has a Corky that's a house dog. Every time he visits, the dog jumps out of the car and sh**s in the driveway or in my shop or on the porch, wherever it gets to first. He thinks it's funny. You'll never see my dog's sh**, he goes away to do that. House dogs are just different. Without strict training they invade human space rudely. Willard would never do that.

It's pretty tough for a dog to not do stupid things when the owner thinks that a dog that does stupid things is funny..
