Steve, the boards in the pic. are cherry and maple. You guys have some expensive mills!! NICE!!!--- mine is a little Timber Tuff mill. It does fine for my logs, and if I run into bigger log, I just skin it down with the 36" Granberg chain saw mill until it fits the band saw.
I do have a bit of walnut, and hackberry to cut.--Also want to do a big straight hedge tree that we have at the farm.--hedge finishes up to a golden orange as it ages! thanks; sonny580

I do a little milling too, here's a 20' 6" American Blk. Cherry on the mill,

Man, what a pretty log....very little taper and dang near straight as an arrow.....amazing for a 20' cherry log here. What use will you put 20' cherry lumber to Rob ? I usually cut my cabinet/furniture stuff into 8-12' lengths, and just saw framing material in longer lengths.

Yeaaa, I got a pretty good tally out of THAT log,

and much of it was clear,

One of the reasons I cut the log out so long is, I had planned to use it in a room that is 18' long and the trim would be full length... AND I could always cut some of it down shorter to build the cabinets out of...

One of the reasons I cut my "good" stuff in 12' or less is my dry kiln room won't handle but 13' lengths.

Just a spare room in my shop....8x13, 7' ceiling. Insulated, inside is OSB with a couple coats of aluminum mobile home roof coating to seal moisture inside. An OLD (use R-12, not R-22) window air conditioner on a shelf inside. Heat off the AC raises the room temp to about 130 max, moisture comes off as the temp raises, hits the cold coil and drips in a bucket ( basic dehumidification process).

I air dry my lumber down to about 18-20% moisture (year or more on sticks in dry), then move it into the kiln to take it down to 6-8% for furniture/cabinet projects.
