About Basswood, what can it be used for? All that I've ever heard is carving and trim work. Last year for giggles I cut a couple of 8x8 cants out of 1 tree. One twisted and checked pretty severely and the other looks great. They spent the winter outside stacked 8" off the ground. I've got some beautiful straight and some tall basswood and popple that I've been tempted to saw into lumber but it seems to be looked at as mainly pulpwood.^^^^
I wouldn't even be able to put those on my mill the way that it's set up now. I tried cutting an 8' basswood log around 16" on the butt... when I turned the log it pushed the entire mill sideways, off the supports.![]()
Nice looking mill. Where are they made?Well, I got the sawmill out of hibernation yesterday. I had an 80" long red pine about 20" dia that I cut some 6" x 6" timbers to start stacking lumber on them. I also cut some stickers. This afternoon, I put up a 12ft redpine and started squaring it up. Those full logs are all my B26TLB will handle. Jon
Toe boards are nice for logs with huge taper. With that said, I hardly use mine. Faster to just cut thru two faces. Otherwise, it just moves the taper to the last two faces. On sweep................horns always up.20" is plenty big for sawing building materials
Nice looking stack of logs!
In my short time sawing I never really thought through log taper or sweep. Sawing will clearly illustrate it especially when you look at the slabwood pile![]()
I'm hoping to use it to frame an ice shack. If it twists as you say, I'm out $34 for what I paid for the logs, plus my sawing time.About Basswood, what can it be used for? My nice hemlocks are limited, the previous owner was a logger, not that he stripped everything but....
Mill is a Timberry M100 with a 9hp Kohler engine. Entry level, single post. When looking for them last year, I liked the cross bracing on the rails that Woodmizer mills had. Noticed Timberry had them also. Found out that Woodmizer bought out Timberry and are now making them in Indy, IN. Better delivery last year than Woodmizer due to shortages. Doesn't have all their frills. JonNice looking mill. Where are they made?
