What is a good trunk line base station that i could program myself? Thanks for all and any info. Would like to hear of brands and good places to buy from.

I'm not too sure exactly what you want to scan for but - I have Kenwood radio equipment and its a top of the line product. I have Kenwood in ham radio and land mobile radio service(VHF). If you choose to go this way - you will be purchasing equipment that will last a lifetime.

There is also Yaesu and Icom which are top of the line products.

You will have to google to see where these radios are sold in your area.

Would also depend on if you NEED trunking which I have never programed but it looks like it would not be fun! I guess it would be ok with PC programing! Bearcat Uniden are the 2 I hear about most.

My Radio Shack Pro197 has pre programmed trunking but from what I read you can also program for trunking.
Here's the manual. read pages 30-31 to see if it qualifies for what you want to do.
