Ok I am thinking about purchasing a B3030 or B7800 and looking at the differences. One that I see is the PTO function. They list the B7800 as live continuous and the B3030 as live independent. Whats the difference? Are there any other main differences between these two tractors other than position control and PTO operation? Thanks for the help! BTW, I was quoted 15500 for the B7800 with one rear remote and loader and 17400 for the B3030 with one rear remote and loader, both with R-4s.

I'll take a guess, though I'm not familiar with either of these models.

In the days of old, the PTO operating was dependent on the tractor being in gear (or neutral) with the clutch out. So it was tough to start mowing for instance as the tractor had to start moving as the PTO was spinning up. I think that was referred to as non-independent PTO or not a live PTO.

As technology got better, it was referred to as "Live PTO", meaning you could engage the PTO, bring it up to speed, then engage the ground drive.

My guess is these are advertising terms for a sophisticated "live PTO". I would think you could use any PTO implement exactly the same with either tractor.

Now I'll be quiet and let someone smarter'n'me give a good answer.

Both tractors are basiclly the same tractor, motor, transmission
The 7800 has a different lift system for 3 point hitch.
The 3030 has no clutch where as the 7800 does
The 3030 has several neat little add on's
To answer your question both have continous PTO the 3030 has it own
clutch for engaging and disengaging, the 7800 you have to use the clutch
Put another way the 7800 is strip down version of the 3030, but still a
good and powerful tractor. Personally I would chose the 3030
Hope this helps

2520th,

I believe if you shop a few more dealers you can add a mower and a rear attachment for $2,000 more. I also would go with the 3030 if it's in your budget.

I read the link above that N80 posted and it makes sense. You say the B7800 has a clutch? I am assuming that it is just for the PTO since its a hydro tranny tractor?? Or am I missing something? Thanks for the info. I am still leaning towards the B7800 just due to the $2000 difference.

I actually drove the B7800 around a little but didnt mess with the PTO any.

The clutch is a multifunction device.
I have a B7510HST (hydro tranny).
There's a start interlock on the clutch so you need to mash down on the clutch to start the engine.
You need to clutch to change HST ranges (high, low).
You need to clutch to engage/disengage the PTO.

The clutch on the B7800 is a real clutch, when pushed in it stops everything
it stops everything. The B3030 has no clutch the pto is engaged with a clutch for the pto only.

Also the B7800 does not come with a mid PTO, I think it can be added as
a option.

I also suggest go to your Kubota dealer and get bouchuer's(sp) for both
tractors. I have a B2910 very much like the B3030, I have used a B7800
and I perfer my tractor.

Both are great tractors for the money, it comes down to what do you want
one with a few more frills, or one that is the same, but is just basic.
A decision I went through just 2 years ago.

Thanks for the explaination. I understand now how its used. Anybody else have any pros/cons of the B7800/B3030?

Thanks

I have a B3030 and looked at both the B7800 and the B3030 before I bought in August of '05. I chose the B3030 for the Position Control, Telescoping Links on the 3PTH arms and the Pin Type sway bars versus the turnbuckles. The PTO was not a factor to me as I don't think it makes much difference. I have no complaints with the Independent PTO. I have a 60" MMM so I needed a mid PTO anyway. As I recall, at the time I bought there was less than a $1000 price increase from the B7800 to the B3030, but that included the mid-PTO. As the B3030 was a new model and the B7800 was a model that had been out a few years, having the latest model as well as the updated looks of the tractor were important to me so I chose the B3030. For the price difference, as long as I was spending more than $17,000 for the tractor, FEL and MMM, the $1000 difference was small compared to the extra features of the B3030. The B7800 owners on this forum all seem to like their tractors. I know that I would have always been nagged by the thought of the extra bells and whistles I could have had if I had only spent a few more dollars. It is a big decision so make sure you will be happy after you buy. It will cost a lot more to upgrade later if you decide you want the extra features. Good luck.
