These are part of what we found last year. We picked a small bag a couple of weeks ago. It has been slow, this spring has been a little wet. Still have a couple of weeks left to get more.

Someone asked about over harvesting, yes you can over harvest them, like mentioned above, the mushroom part we eat is the fruiting body, it contains the spore of the fungus and if you grab them all up and put them into buckets or plastic bags then the spore is trapped and you end up eating it or washing it off. You should use a onion sack type bag which is highly perforated to let the spore all bounce out and back into the woods to keep the fungus going. there are shroom bags that are cloth which dont damage the shroom and kets the spore fall out. one other way is to rinse them very well in cool water catch the water then dump the water out under some dead/dieing trees. this works well to get you a secret spot some time later, (usually takes 2~3 years to produce the fruiting bodies.)

My land was over harvested as there are NO Morels that I have ever found on it. lots of dead trees though. I am going to be working up a spot for them and I have a lot of SHIIKIE to plug. the KIT I think is sawdust that has the spore growing in it? i did not open up the box, it was pretty small, maybe 1/2 size of a shoe box. cost was 30 bucks for that I think so far I'm not feeling the worth... I'll post back when I'm done planting them...

27 more today. I think we are getting down to the end of it now. There are still a couple of spots that sure look like they should produce some mushrooms, but there is nothing there.

Sure is nice to walk in the woods in the spring. The Dogwoods are blooming along with the Apple and the Thorn Apples trees. Even the May Apples are showing their blooms. Everywhere you look there is new life. Spring time in the woods is a special time for me.

hi guys:
well i cut , Drilled and put in my Shiitkie spawn/plugs this weekend and got about 1/2 a bag of the Pearl Mushrooms (Hen of the woods) as well. LOTS of work but I probably went a bit overkill on how I did up the plugs. (drilled holes, used some sawdust, mixed with some old maple syrup boiled the sawdust mash and then put a little into each hole and packed lightly down, put in the plugs, then added more of the sawdust/sugar water in to the top of the holes and left dry some. rinsed off, and will wax over then 1st change I get, I cut RED OAK and some SUGAR MAPLE as the wood stock to plant the Mushroom Plugs in. We will see if all the effort was worth it. probably 15 hrs doing this this weekend.

I wanted to burn off some brush in an area and plant my Morels but there was not time and or low enough wind to burn. still have 150+ plugs to put in MATIKIE and more PEARLs..

still never had any time to go hunting for them, looked in woods at my farm but no luck...
