I've got some scrap tin and appliances that I was hoping to haul in and make some money off of it.
But looks like I'll be sitting on it for awhile. At $45.00 a ton for tin and $5.00 a ton for appliances I can't make enough to pay for the gas to haul it to the scrap yard.
I've been storing appliances and other tin and steel at my old place until it hopefully goes up. I don't make a special trip there to unload it but when I go there anyway I take it over there.
I'll still remove the appliances that people want hauled off or if I find some in the dumpster etc but won't be taking the tin or appliances in.
The only thing worth selling right now is copper, aluminum and Brass.
I'm certified to work with refrigerants and have the recovery machine, and I remove the refrigerant from the appliances and get all the copper and other things out of them before taking them in.
I take the compressors and cut them open and remove the copper from them as well.
Makes it worth it to get the appliances.
Not long ago I took in some appliances and other tin and was getting $100.00 a ton for it. A few months later I took another load in and only $50.00
After that last trip I decided that I would stock it for awhile. As it wasn't worth my gas and wear and tear on my truck.
I sure hope it does go back up again, but I don't look for it to anytime soon.
