Scrap metal prices

I've got some scrap tin and appliances that I was hoping to haul in and make some money off of it.

But looks like I'll be sitting on it for awhile. At $45.00 a ton for tin and $5.00 a ton for appliances I can't make enough to pay for the gas to haul it to the scrap yard.

I've been storing appliances and other tin and steel at my old place until it hopefully goes up. I don't make a special trip there to unload it but when I go there anyway I take it over there.

I'll still remove the appliances that people want hauled off or if I find some in the dumpster etc but won't be taking the tin or appliances in.

The only thing worth selling right now is copper, aluminum and Brass.

I'm certified to work with refrigerants and have the recovery machine, and I remove the refrigerant from the appliances and get all the copper and other things out of them before taking them in.

I take the compressors and cut them open and remove the copper from them as well.

Makes it worth it to get the appliances.

Not long ago I took in some appliances and other tin and was getting $100.00 a ton for it. A few months later I took another load in and only $50.00

After that last trip I decided that I would stock it for awhile. As it wasn't worth my gas and wear and tear on my truck.

I sure hope it does go back up again, but I don't look for it to anytime soon.

Wow. was thinking of hauling in a few hundred pounds of scrap wear bars from a snow plow. Hardly worth loading and hauling in. Would not pay for the fuel.

I took a little over a ton of steel scrap in yesterday to my local scrap yard and got a penny a pound, Not at all worth the time and energy but I had ran out of room and needed it gone.

My neighbor just bought some new flat plate for 27 cents a pound last week. Haven't seen those prices since the 90's. Looks like the first half of next year will be soft.

I also took in 2300lbs of steel and got bupkus for it 2 weeks ago. But I am glad to get rid of all the crap that was lying around. On the brighter side I need a new steel roof for my house and the prices of the sheets are now 100 a square which is pretty decent.

I took some aluminum in about a week ago and it was 24 cents a lb and now it's 16 cents per lb. Glad I took it in when I did.

Took some copper in too at $1.59 lb and now it's down to $1.44 lb.

I think the prices are gonna dive even more for awhile.

Just gonna stockpile the tin and appliances for awhile. I have room at my old place to store them.

Just gonna work on selling the Copper for now.

I'd stockpile the copper too but need the money right now.

And that's the only thing worth selling, that and soda/beer cans.

Tin is just gonna have to sit right now.

I am in the process of moving and cleaning out a lot of "one of these days" metal. I would guess that I have over 2 tons of steel.
I called my favorite metal recycler and ask about a dumpster. She said the smallest they have is 20 yard and there is a delivery and PU charge of $100.00 and I could have it for 3 weeks.
She also said they are paying $5.00 a hundred for #2 steel.
I figure it would be cheaper to dig a hole and bury it!!

Are you talking about 100 pounds? That's 100/ton... Not bad for #2 right now. Still not enough to mess with a dumpster though.

Been getting killed in the stock market on all my miner stocks, had a bunch go belly up and even Freeport McMorrhan is down from 50 to 7bucks... I sold copper steel appliances and aluminum w a dozen batteries back on Earth Day in the spring. Pickup loaded up roof high with 1200lbs got 150 bucks and was just glad to got rid of it all. 3 years ago some copper and brass got me $450 for a pick bed that had enough space to set all of it on wheel-wells forward to be level... Doing electrical work I get a good bit of bright copper & even had a bunch of bar copper. now it sets in way and not worth saving lol
