Called another local scrap buyer today and was told they are paying $2.85 a hundred for steel.
Pretty soon I will have to pay them to take it!!!

Looks that way here too. I've been getting some more appliances and other scrap from people lately.

Even some who used to take it in are now just wanting it hauled off as they no longer want to deal with it.

The appliances I just go ahead and strip them down of the copper, electric motors and aluminum the rest of it goes onto my trailer until I get a good enough load to go unload it at me and my dad's Salvage Storage yard.

I don't make a special trip the 12 miles there but if I'm going their anyway then I'll hook the trailer up and let it follow me over to the yard.

I'm just stockpiling the tin and appliances. Definitely not giving it to the scrap yards. I'm sure the prices will rise. And when they do I should have some good money.

I figure if I'm spending the fuel driving there anyway then I might as well take the scrap over their too.

I was given an old water heater from a church today. Got some brass on it and some aluminum.

I'll just keep plugging away at it. And luckily I have the space to store the tin and steel.

I remember quite awhile ago when I scrap my old car my dad bought me for $400.00 I drove that thing for quite awhile and then later it through a rod and wasn't worth repairing.

I took it in and got $450.00 for it. So I actually made back more than my dad paid for it.

My biggest problem is I bought 10 acres with a 4 bedroom house and am trying to get my old 2 acre place cleaned up so I can sell it.
I might just have to haul the scrap 50 miles to my new place and store it until the market comes back. ???
It never fails, when I want something the price is sky high! When I am selling it it's worthless!!

If you hang onto it your going to have it for a year or two I would guess. People seem to think it may take 18moths before price starts to rise again

So that means to me I can expect to pay low prices for the metal I need for several projects.
My local friendly, well stocked supplier was selling steel for 65 cents/lb last year. Now he's down to $0.45/lb

Is that new, or used? I paid $0.10/lb at the local scrapyard last week for "short steel", got a bunch of flat plate and a couple of pieces of angle.

I'd call it new scraps. I bought a "remnant" 4'+ x 2'+ for a welding platform and 2' x 7' piece of 10 gauge. But I'm out in the sticks and he's only about 7 miles off my beaten track. Plus he'll cut it if needed.

I called yesterday and was told it was down to a penny a pound. I had 3 tons of used purlins and roofing on my trailer. Sold it on Craig's list for $500 vs the $60 I would have gotten at the scrap yard.

Does any one know why prices dropped so much? A scrap yard 1 mile away closed up. It was great while it lasted

China stopped building ghost cities, so they don't need as much steel to make into rebar.
