Scraper or Grading blade?

In this order - rear blade, land plane grading scraper, roll over box blade.

ok, ha...looks we both posted at same time.....so I can only get one for now. let's narrow this down. Appreciate your patience.

I want to smooth out the build site following its natural slope for water run off.
Once that is done then build up a 4k sq. footprint about 18 to 24 inches in a relative smooth grade. The builder will get it perfect once the 'select fill' material is spread and the forms built.
So having said that what say you?
Oh, IF you say the single rear blade; then my next stupid question is, will it create that wash board effect like a BB, due to constant adjustments? Never used one so just don't know.

The Fel works well at transporting material. A rear blade with gauge wheels will level all out. Of course it is possible to spend a lot more money for the same results.

I saw the ones with wheels on Machinery Pete's auction site, way outta my budget......3k to 4k.

What Egon said and in my particular case - why. The FEL with a good bucket will scrape up and transport material just fine. My ROBB scrapes up just fine but does not do so well on distributing the material. It's probably more a lack of my experience and technique. Whatever......

I wish you had posted pictures and showing what you want to accomplish.

Box blade or rear blade. If it's too light it can "stutter" and create ripples/riffles. If you will be moving soil considerable distances - box blade. Box blade will scrape up and contain the soil. When you get to the dump/spread area - lift the box blade slightly or tip it with your hydraulic top link or a little of both.

Rear blade can do the same - but only if you put some type of containing winglets on the ends. Thereby making it a box blade.

If you are planning on a very smooth, large area - I suggest a heavy rear blade, winglets and gauge wheels.

A quick search of the net will come up with a land plane with a rear gate, making it dual purpose. Built mine a couple of years ago with that option, thought I was pretty smart. Doing some searching, found some similar, deflated my ego a bit. Still worked out good, with new blades and cyl and hoses, into it around $600.

I have a land plane (your second photo) works great for the gravel drive but will not move much dirt. I believe that was speaking of the box blade as the one that will move dirt. We built up the area for our house and shop 18 inches and hired it done. It took two weeks a Cat and the below outfit. We moved a LOT of dirt. Can't imagine moving that much with a smaller tractor. Hoping you do not need to move that much.
