Screeching at night

Have you ever been outside after dark and heard screeching? I heard some eerie screeching tonight, so I "videotaped" it, although there is no video, just the sounds. I think it could be a linkx.They kind of sound like a girl screeming,sends shivers down your spineave

Sounds like some sort of feline to me. Maybe a feral cat defending its turf.

Definitely a fox.

I hear them a lot here, and have seen them up close "barking" exactly like that.

Lots of ideas! I'm leaning toward fox, I saw one running along the edge of the river a few days ago. :thumbsup:

I've seen a fox barking/howling like that years ago. From a distance it didn't look well - coat was patchy and not dull. I figured at the time there was something wrong with it. I know in the spring when they're looking for a mate their bark will sound exactly like a crow cawing. You will hear it in the middle of the night and you think, 'what the heck is a crow doing out in the dark'.

Sounds like a fox to me as well. Youtube has some comparisons. I've heard some really bizarre screeches coming from owls around my place.

+1 for foxes. We have them here in my part of NJ and they do that on summer nights. I have been told that's how they claim their territory. It sure sounds strange when you don't know what it is! :laughing:

Shortly after we moved out to our rural home, we were sitting on the deck one evening and heard what sounded to us like a woman screaming "Help" out in the corn field stubble next to our property - - made the hairs on my neck stand up.

Asked the neighbors the next day and they told us what it is.

I agree, It is a peacock. Our neighbor had peacocks that got loose in the woods around our house and they sounded like little children screaming at night.

Definately a MALE fox territorial call trying to attract a mate........Usually happens from twilight through the early AM.......You will hear it moving as it crosses it's "territory......Dennis

I stand corrected and it appears NSBound does live n the same quadrant. Imo, it doesn't sound like the same animal using headphones and a decent quality external Fast Track Ultra sound card
