SCUT owners looking for PTO driven leaf vacs

He didn't go into details but said that it will weigh between 300-400 lbs and will attach to the back of the tractor (not the 3-point hitch). Nothing touches the ground it simply "sucks" debris into the hopper from the intake.

Although this is an attachment that I would have no interest in, $1700 + freight is a lot of $$$ just to deal with leaves ( my leaf blowers work very well ) I would be very interest to see this item and how it works.
It doesn't connect to the 3 point hitch but it does attach to the tractor and yet nothing touchs the ground.
So how does it attach to the tractor ?

Mark_in_NH,
Although Harry didn't say, I would assume the only logical place to attach the unit would be to the ROPS as opposed to the 3-pt. He did say that he's trying to get a "dolly" type wheel under the unit so you can roll it up to the back of your tractor hence, taking the load off your back. Same way with dismounting.

The $1,700 was just a ballpark figure and yes, this would be a pricy attachment however, your spending a lot less compared to the tow behind units that have their own motor and maintenance. I like the idea of the tractor engine and the tractor PTO running the unit. Someone mentioned in a different post that PTO shafts hardly ever break so why not take advantage of something that comes with your tractor ? ? ?

I am going to make an assumption here and tell you guys to go over to harry website bxpanded and take a look at the carryall. If he is making one for a BX I would guess he could be using the bottom drawbar pin and the tip link. I can imangine seeing the same thing on other colors tractors, it just needs to be modified for length and hieght for various colors I would assume. (discliamer- its just an assumption - it easy to make rumors from this wheather its true or not :D)

I'm no design engineer, but I wonder why this item isn't designed to hook up to the 3PH...?

BigD23,
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer as my posts clearly indicate. I'm merely attempting to pass on what I was told. Harry believes making something extremely useful via the quickest way which would make SCUT owners happy and I agree. If he can shave off 10 or 20 minutes hooking up a leaf vac without a 3-pt hitch then I'm all for it. I say give the man a chance.

radioman,
Good to hear from you. Speaking of BXexpanded's website, he said he's planning to update his website soon with a bunch of new stuff soon including his prototypes. If you noticed something similar between his carry-all attachment and where he might place his leaf vac attachment brackets then you have better eyes than me. I can assure you rumor has nothing to do with this. I heard it straight from the horse's mouth.

Harry,
Sure hoping you'll pipe up here soon. I'm starting to feel like Muhammad Ali doing the "rope-a-dope against Joe Frasier." I really, really want a SCUT combatable leaf vac.

Hi Misery T (went 2 school in St. Louis so can call it that)

About your pallet forks. Just remember your bucket can only lift about 700# knock off weight of forks and add the distance in front and think you will be down in 3-500 # pallet lift weight so wouldn't try on full pallet of bricks block shingles etc. Also probably need a weight of some kind on rear.

Stargazer,
I thought about that too. I don't see me ever having to move a pallet worth of bricks which leads me to believe that I'd be OK with BXpanded forks.

On a side note, I spoke with Harry at BXpanded today and he said his leaf vac's will be available in 60 days.

So, (back to the original subject), is this like a tractor pulled 'billy goat' style vacuum? I presume its a pto shaft driven impeller with a discharge chute going back to a boxed trailer of some sort? Or would it be a 5 - 6 hp engine driven, tow behind vac that a 4 wheeler could pull? The dump cart needs to be big enough to hold a few yards of debris, the suction needs to be great enough to pull leaves, twigs, nuts, pine needles and grass clippings. And it has to have an easy dump feature so you can back it up, open a gate and dump out the loaf of collected material.

I use something like this now, but with a mower discharge hose. That's because leaves by themselves are pretty bulky and take up a lot of space. The mower plus high speed impeller chops the material up into a high density loam which takes up a lot less volume. It composts better, too.

zzvyb6,
Not "goat style". Nothing touches the ground. It hooks up to the back of your tractor (not the 3-point hitch by the way) and when you engage the PTO it starts sucking up debris and will hold a considerable amount of leaves. Not sure how you dispose of your trash when the hopper's full. No seperate motor. The power comes from the PTO shaft and it will be available for Kubota, JD and New Holland SCUT's.

I will be looking at what BXPANDED comes up with, and I might get one for next season. I like the concept. I burned my money for this season on an interim solution.

I bought Harry's front forks, and I like them quite a lot. Although I have a carry-all, which is handy in its own way, the forks are so much more versatile. (I bought the carry-all cheap to use with a custom made pallet that holds my PTO generator, else the forks would have been all I need.

You mention that you do not have the mid-mount mower, so you like the concept of it working without such a requirement. Harry no doubt knows that many of us DO have a MMM, and the idea of not using the 3 point hitch would be a bonus for us since the lift arms go up and down as we raise and lower our mowers. (I know there are ways around this, but it is far better not to have to confront it if not necessary.)

I look forward to seeing it!
