SCUT vs CUT mowing differences

We had initially looked at an SCUT, the bought a CUT. Upgraded to a bigger CUT, as it does more than mowing. Look at any potential future work too, before you pull the trigger.

Good luck.

yep.. buying small is sometimes more limiting than buying big.

The Grand L is one amazing tractor. Im on 3 acres also and grew up on NH CUTs. Do you have a backhose on the Grand L? How capable is the BX backhoe?

No backhoe on the Grand L, did all the backhoe work I needed done with the BX23TLB & the B3200TLB. I do agree with the quote about renting a backhoe for the weekend to remove the few tree stumps you have. Backhoes are expensive to buy and sometimes after your projects they sit unused in barn, expensive and a waste for you. Pick the tractor and or mower either mmm or rfm that fits you regardless of the brand, good luck.

Gents trying to decide between a SCUT or a CUT and comparing all of the differences. Anyone had a SCUT and went to a CUT? or Vice versa? If so I would like to hear your input on things.

For 10 acres or less, I'd go with a SCUT and being I'm partial, I'd recommend the Yanmar SC2400. It is a heavy duty and an awesome machine and comes with a 5 year warranty. Being you have trees, I'd go with the 5ft MMM and FEL. You'll find the MMM easy to use in tight quarters around trees and the FEL is easy to remove, too. I know, I used to own one but being we have 45 acres and have lots of grass to mow and other things to do, we needed a bigger tractor so I traded it in a month ago and bought a 2012 Yanmar EX3200 with a FEL and RFM. Having owned many different tractors since 1968, the EX3200 is one heck of a tractor, too. Comparing it to a Kubota, JD, or NH of the same horsepower all I have to say is it cost a whole lot less than any of them and is built much better. Good luck with your decision.

I just got a Yanmar Sc2540 last month and everyday I am more happy with it than the day before. I got it with FEL, BH, MMM, and they all work great easy on and off. The MMM cuts very smoothly. If you haven't made your decision check it out.

Second the X700 series for mowing. The best there is. SCUTs are compromised mowers and compromised tractors. I struggled with this myself, as I wanted one machine to do all. Ended up keeping my JD425AWS (X700 series predecessor) for mowing and got a real tractor (CUT) for the tractor work. Glade I didn't go SCUT, as the 425AWS will mow circles around them and my bigger tractor is a heavy real digging brute. A used JD400 series for mowing is an option worth considering for you too. A nice 455 would be around $4000. Worth it, at twice the price. Then get a CUT for the tractor work. You could easily save the $4K by buying other than JD/Kubota brand.

I have a Yanmar SC2450 SCUT and am mowing quite a bit since I got it in May. If you are cutting really high grass (12-18") you can bog it down. I mow 3 acres every 2-3 weeks. The SCUT is a great unit and will do a lot. I have an FEL, BH and 60" MMM. I use them all and they are great energy and back savers.
