Shu, Thanks for your original post. It keeps popping in my mind every time I sit on my tractor..... almost like it keeps popping up here. ... and I fasten that seatbelt. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I wear my belt on the tractor for good reason, because I"ve got a rops on the tractor. But that is my choice. I also wear chaps and a helment when cutting ,, but once again that is by choice.
I work on the ten ten rule --- sounds stupid doesn't it. Well I figure it like this. I go into the woods with ten fingers and ten toes and I"m going to be leaving with the same amount.
It's a very fine line between safe and stupid.

The other day I needed to move some snow. It wasn't a lot of snow, maybe 10 minutes worth of work, but it was blocking storm drain. I jumped on the Kubota backed it out of the shed and ran inside the house for a few minutes for it to warm up. Back out to the tractor and jumped on it and started to back away, then thought about this thread. Got off the tractor raised the ROPS from the folded position to the upright position, got back on the tractor and fastened the seat belt. Maybe 3 minutes worth of work tops. Luckily I didn't need the extra protection but it was there in case something did happen.
My motto is that when it seems likely that something won't happen is when it normally happens. Run a tractor hard all day long in some pretty rough terrain (raising the pucker factor quite high). The ROPS up and belt fastened and nothing happens. Jump on the tractor to drive up the driveway to get the paper and leave ROPS down that is when the tractor will flip. I'm not willing to take that chance.

I recently moved the seat belt system on my tractor around to make it more instinctive to use . I run with the ROPS up and the belt ON . No doubt that the chance of hurting/killing myself is a GAZZILLION to one . But I never know when I'm one away from a Gazillion /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And, NO I'm not one of those "the sky is falling " Safety types ! I spent a lot of time sky diving and racing bikes . I just tried to stay within the confines of safety while doing these things . I've found at some expense , that the more familiar ,and safer you feel with some things , the higher the chance you'll get BITTEN by them . JMHO John
