Seat Belts

That being said, I am not against wearing one. I wear one while driving my Titan. However, I do think that with the improvements made in air-bag technology, the "click-it or ticket" is a bit much. The decision should not be mandated, especially when the number of people pulled and ticketed seems to vary depending on the financial needs of the entity issuing the tickets.

I definitely agree with the statement about it should not be mandated. People do have a right to live their lives, even if those decisions have dire repercussions.

However, the bolded section....those airbags work best when the person is restrained in a position to maximize the airbag's protection. Also, airbags don't have the same protection in a side collision. So, seat belts are necessary...although it should not be an offense to not use them.

Unfortunately when a death or serious injury occurs many other people are impacted.
It is especially sad when death or injury could be prevented or minimized by wearing a seat belt.

I always wear my seatbelt but when I was in high school a friend of mine was driving without his seatbelt and was hit by another car which sent his car into a telephone pole, he struck the pole on the drivers door and the car wrapped around the pole. Had he been wearing a seat belt he would have been killed instantly but because he was not strapped in ,when his car impacted the pole he was thrown into the passengers seat ( no one else was with him ) and he survived with only minor injuries. It just depends on the type of accident I suppose.

The same could be said of smoking or drinking (especialy if driving)

I have never worn a seatbelt on a tractor. I live were it is as flat as can be so I don't have a risk of rolling the tractor on a hill although if I had an accident (with another vehicle or a tree) it could help. Another reason I don't were a seat belt on my tractor is because it has no ROPS.
On the other hand, I always wear a seat belt when I am in a vehicle. I was in an accident last year with a friend and he said the only reason he thought about putting his seat belt on was because he saw me put mine on. I am so thankful that he put his seatbelt on because if he was killed(which there was a good chance he would have been) I would have blamed myself and lost a good friend. Because of the way I was hit, no airbags went off and I was knocked unconscious.
From experience I can tell you that seatbelts save lives, and unless you want to hurt yourself and those around you, were your seatbelt.

I think most of our members know it, but of course you're right. You do NOT want to wear a seat belt if you do not have a ROPS.

Yep, I've made it to 70, but no one involved has any doubt that I would have died in an auto accident on December 29, 1965, almost a month before our first daughter was born, if I hadn't been wearing a seat belt that night. So far, that seat belt has given me another 45 years. So, as you might guess, it's such a habit with me that I buckle up without even thinking about it, and would be very uncomfortable in a vehicle without having the belt on.

And while I think it's foolish to not wear the seat belts, I'm also one of those who think we have too many laws and I don't think we should have laws to make you take care of yourself. I figure that should be up to you.
