Jumping it should not hurt anything. It is simple switch unless you have some fancy seat defroster or something (just making that up). I a couple safety switches on my old JD I bypassed because they were intermittently faulting. Drove me crazy. Jumped one and duct taped the other. Good luck.

Give me a break - there has to be some simple method to bypass the seat switch when using the PTO and you are out of the seat. Are you telling me that MF did not realize this situation and make provisions for it.

What mine does makes no difference here but - I turn the PTO on - stand up - the buzzer goes off for ten seconds - that's the end of the show folks. Climb down and start stuffing the chipper. My seat switch is not a cut off/disable - its a warning.

My recommendation - - since what the Owners Manual says does not seem to work - call the local MF dealer.
Yours is also a commercial grade tractor; mine is the dumbed down homeowner's version. :D

No - I will not accept your explanation there Jstpssng. ABSOLUTELY no offense intended - BUTT - if your tractor has a rear PTO - and sufficient Hp to run a chipper or tiller or brush hog - - then there should be a legitimate way to exit the tractor with the PTO still running.

Now - as an example - my JD riding lawn mower had a kill switch on the seat - at one time. But - it has no PTO anywhere and I can see the logic behind that kill switch - although its long gone.

What do the manufacturers of smaller tractors expect - somebody to sit in the seat while others stuff the chipper or whatever.

What if you have nobody to sit in the seat of your tractor while you feed the chipper.

I can envision a moment of sheer panic OR humor here. Go into my local tractor dealer - pick out a smaller tractor - also purchase a chipper - have them hook up the chipper and do a demonstration. What will they do - have a helper come out and sit on the seat - - do they have a sack of Pet Rocks to place on the seat. Does the helper come with the tractor & chipper OR do you just get the sack of Pet Rocks.

I wonder if there is some Federal law that stipulates kill switches on certain size units. Must be.

Not only is the seat kill switch a pain in the azz (pun intended) when you're using the PTO, as in using a wood chipper, its also a total hindrance when one stands up while driving. Often when using the forks on my FEL, I need to stand up to see where I'm at in picking up a pallet, etc. And as soon as I raise up, the engine shuts down - PTO in use, or not.

There are also many other times when working with the bucket that I need to see exactly where the bucket is at, especially when working near a building or other fixtures. I agree that the seat kill switch has a very valuable purpose, but it is sometimes a major pain. I'm aware that on my Kubota L3400 I could simply tie that little white nylon arm down to bypass the kill switch. But so far I've simply tried to discover convenient ways to leave it functional, yet get my work done without having to go through contortions of getting off the seat while pulling the seat up with one hand and dismounting using the other.

I'm not one for bypassing safety features. However - Kubota and others need to work out a better means of providing fall-off protection. So far, all I've seen is sacrificing a pain in my azz for them covering theirs!

My owner manual describes something very similar to this. Except I get no buzzer, just engine shutdown. OK I will call the dealer on Monday. I only want to keep the engine running when the PTO is engaged-- not when the tractor is in gear. I can't find any combination where it is possible to keep the PTO running unless I am in the seat.

Getting a bit off topic here... but I can stand up and slowly inch forward to manage my QA alignment or fork placement by tapping my HST pedal without killing it. I know that doesn't help the OP with his PTO problems though.

PLOWHOG - ah, no - - you WANT the pro running while the tractor is in motion also. What about your brush hog or rototiller or bailer or side bar sickle mower - etc.

My bad. Yes I run an 8 foot rotary cutter using PTO when in forward gear. I meant I want to be able to leave the seat without killing PTO. I am ok with the seat switch killing the engine if I leave the seat while it is in gear. Although that is inconvenient at times it is not a deal breaker like killing the PTO to the chipper when I leave the seat.

I see the use in a seat switch but it can be a pain when you stand up to look at the leading edge of your bucket or the tips of your forks. When I changed out a worn seat, I was able to jump my switch with a small piece of copper wire bent like a staple. I have never looked back.

Just two wires to the seat safety switch. I'm tempted to put a jumper across it but after finding some voltage on it I am not so sure.

Got to have voltage on at least one side or the circuit will not know if switch is closes or open... its all about electron flow theory....
