Yep, stories like that are part of why I still change my own oil.

New cars have been found after 3 or more oil changes to still have the production line only PN oil filter still in place.

And, on and on...... If you want it done right......

Rgds, D.

As I noted in the opening post about the tagline" "World's best service...your own".....so true!! I have always done all the maintenance of oil changes, cooling system flushes, etc. on my vehicles for over 45 years now...if you do it yourself you KNOW it was done. Sad thing is, many people have no mechanical skills and don't want to work on their vehicles. I don't save much money because I use really good oil and filters but I KNOW what I used...brake jobs are a huge ripoff because they mark up parts 100% over what it costs them, and THEN they charge you $90 an hour for half-a** labor. My GF got her car from a dealer that offered "free oil changes" and I could tell for a FACT that they didn't replace the filter in her car the oil change she had done before I did it the first time.

Another question.

Do the Oregon and New Jersey laws allow attendants to refuel multiple vehicles at the same time; i.e., can an attendant start a pump and then move on to another vehicle?

Yes for Oregon. Sometimes 6-8 cars at a time at larger stations.

I have traveled through Oregon and can say yes, they pump multiple cars at once.

I recall stopping at a station, jumping out and fueling up and paying with my card by myself. As I drove away, I thought "that pump was sure different to use", then recalled that I was in Oregon and I was not supposed to do that. The attendant was busy and I guess I sneaked in.

So...let me get this straight: Here in Michigan self-serve stations have regulations posted that you are required to monitor the pump while refueling...yet Oregon attendants can have as many as 6-8 cars refueling under their supervision at one time?

Yes for NJ, usually 1 attendant for 2 islands , or 6 pumps. Do not even think of getting out your car and start pumping. I have taken the nozzle out of the tank when it was done because I was in a hurry, they will yell at you too just not as much:confused3:

In theory he can watch all pumps for the rare occasion when the pump failed to shut off.
How many times have you seen customers start the pump and go in the store... or stand there smoking a cigarette?

Decades ago when I used to pump I once b+++hed a woman out for throwing a lit cigarette out the window while I was filling her tank.
... sad to say that she felt it was "my job" to go stamp it out.

That is correct.....but keep in mind......these are highly trained and paid individuals......they know what they are doing.....some even smoke while refueling!

Oh, we all know those attendants are mainly older potheads, who are well rehashed (pun intended) in another thread here....
