But I HAVE anX729! Thanks for convincing me of what a fool I am!

But no other will turn better than what you have and get into and out of tight spots. Even more important for landscaping..

I hope that is not the case, I purchased the X729 with the intention of adding the Model 45 loader. It is one of the attachments shown for that model in the catalog and my dealer is watching for a deal for me. No real heavy work planned, just moving mulch around.

Deere Dealers are not supposed to sell loaders for any AWS tractor but hopefully yours will bend the rules for you (obviously Tommyadvanced's dealer helped him out). I'm not sure which catalog you were looking at but all the current brochures and online info do not list the 45 as as compatible with the X729 (or X749 which is also AWS). That's not to say you can't put a loader on, but Deere Engineering does not recommend it on AWS tractors since it's easier to roll the tractor over if you are turning tightly with a loaded bucket.

I'm not trying to be the Loader Police here, I'm just telling you so if you get any grief from your dealer you know why. If you are only moving around light stuff and you keep the bucket low to the ground you shouldn't have any problems. But if you have an accident or cause any damage to your tractor Deere will NOT cover any of it.

Thanks for that information. Makes sense.

That safety issue is most likely due to the lift height capability of the 45 loader BUT consider a Johhny Bucket Jr or maybe the Snr as they lift only 12 inches and can bucket 200lbs to 500lbs and is much safer. Plus you have 4 wheel steer and can maneuver better than anything out there for this class. Also, JB are electric actuation so no need for additional hydraulic costs. I recall a JB Jr new for about $1400. They are designed to fit your specific tractor, so bolt and go.

Thanks for that. The 700 series has all of the hydraulics necessary, it would be ashame not to use it.

OK then your good for the JB Snr as that is a hydraulic system 500lb capacity, about 12-14inch lift. The Jr is electric, Plus they have a bucket extension making it even better for mulch as that is not as dense as gravel. Also, a tooth bar is available but there is another tooth, I think "Ratchet Tooth" that just clips onto the bucket. :licking:

Sorry to chime in, especially since I really have no idea what I'm talking about here, but it seems a little strange that they'd put in all the hydraulics for a FEL that you're not supposed to install. I can see the stability issue, it makes sense to me, but that is an issue for any tractor. It almost looks like they've integrated a ROPS into the loader. Again, I know nothing about that tractor or loader, but I'd say even my Home Depot John Deere special could take a few hundred pounds on the front axle and if properly ballasted would be stable enough as well. The AWS complicates it a little, but it would seem you'd have to be careful how you turn on a hill without a FEL anyway.

As far as if it makes sense to add a FEL to that tractor, it doesn't to me, but I use a tractor a little differently than you guys to begin with. If it brings the cost up to a 1023R, that's where I'd go. For that price, there are some pretty big beefy tractors available like the Bobcat CT122 or Kioti CK20 (yes I'm partial/biased), but maybe it seems that's not what you guys are looking for, they're certainly not as nimble, but they are strong and capable.

Our local JD Dealer just advised me to purchase a 1023R vs the X700 series with loader based on price comparison. Also, he advised the 1 series has better attachment selection for ground engaging capability. ie Much larger and heavier box scrapers, larger roto-tiller so you get less seat time because work is done faster. The X748 with FEL is exactly what I need but they are expensive.
I would never pay as much or more for a garden tractor when i could get a Sub compact for about the same or even less money .

I love my 2010 X748 with 60D 7-Iron Deck, 45 Loader, 3-Bag MCS, but I've decided to sell it and get a new 1026R. Since switching to the X700 series I haven't been tempted by ANYTHING, but have looked at the new 1-series and, idk, I think they're nice. Am I nuts? Will I regret the change? I have a 3-point hitch and rear PTO, so I'm not gaining much. It's just that every few years I get the itch. Only 60 hours on the meter...I must be crazy.

I've never regretted making the change over from lawn tractors and garden tractors to my 3 Sub Compacts.

Aparently there are people who feel differently as John Deere plans to continue making the 700 Series style along with the 1000 Series.

Yep, and I'm one of them. The 748 is not as tippy, has no ROPS to hit trees, tighter turning, just a better mower.

LBrown has a long history of hating these 7xx machines. He does not realize that not everyone thinks like he does.
