Tractor
Massey 5711D, Kubota L4600, Kubota B2601
My friend has a Kioti tractor he is going to upgrade and I'm on the fence about keeping my Kubota L4600 with a pending purchase of a MF4707.

Local salesmen have recommended Facebook Marketplace but, their help forum doesn't really discuss something of significant value like this and is really geared to high volume modest value sales through their checkout process. Is Facebook Marketplace a good option? If so, what does it cost?

How about Craigslist and other similar services? Are they good? How much do they cost?

Or, are we better off just going to an auction house?

I'm thinking forums like this "might" be good for a Kubota or other name brand tractor but, the time to find the right match seems to be really a hit or miss thing plus, the most likely buyers aren't probably following forums like this, especially for an 'off' brand like a Kioti versus a 'name' brand like JD, MF, etc. Thoughts?

Thanks!
Sid

Edit: I sold my JD 855 on Craigslist.

As far as I know neither charges a fee for the Farm and Garden categories.

On Facebook Market Place I usually start my description by asking that people not message me before 9AM or after 9PM. I use their messenger app on my phone so I don't want it dinging in the middle of the night. If you add that request at the end of your description it may not get read and people will message you in the wee hours.

Make your privacy settings are set so people that aren't in your friends list can view your personal information.

Facebook Market Place doesn't allow phone numbers to be shown. You can enter one but they hide it from viewers for some reason. That suits me fine.

I use the default method of contact through both FB and CL. I never list my phone number or address in an ad. That way you can get a feel for people through messenger or email before you arrange a viewing. Craigslist will send and receive inquiries without divulging you email. This protects you from spammers and scammers to some degree.

Facebook market place wasn’t a huge thing when I sold my last tractor but that’s what I would use now and it’s free.

It shouldn't cost anything with most of the options available here. And, if it's desireable, the tractor wil sell itself. Low hours is harder to get your money out of, unless it is pre-emmisions.

Yes, both tractors pre-emissions with ~200 hours so they have a lot of life left and not too much wear and tear on tires, etc. The Kioti has been used a bit harder so, it is a little rougher but, nothing bad and priced accordingly for the condition.

I sold my Kubota L2900 and Gravely ZTR on Craigslist (and a car.) Free, no worries but we are in a rural area. Might be way different in a major metropolitan area.

I have sold a small tractor on Craigslist. Also, a 2 wheel tractor and multiple implements. There is no fee. I have always insisted on cash. But, the most expensive thing I have sold was under 10 thousand. If it was more, I would suggest meeting them at their bank to be sure they have the funds. I shun paypal due to rumors of people making claims after they have the goods. Also, i have listed a tractor on my state's agricultural paper. You may want to check if your state publishes such a thing.

I have indicated to some people that My Dad was a cop or Lawyer, (Totally False) in a conversation with someone I thought might be sketchy, in case they had notions of targeting me for fraud.

When I bought new last year, I planned to keep my Mahindra. I had multiple people want to buy my tractor when they found out I had a new tractor. I really didn’t want to sell it and kept it for several months until my BIL convinced me to sell it. Now I wish I kept it. Two things be sure you want to sell your tractor before you name a price and word of mouth in rural areas can often sell a good tractor.

Quite often on Marketplace I can see we have mutual friends. That's happened on numerous items I've sold. I had one guy I thought was a flake wanting to buy my hot tub. I see an old co-worker is a FB friend. After that I didn't look at him like a flake and he was decent guy. Big ticket items and farther away less likely to have a mutual friend.:D
Anymore I ignore inquiries that start with "what's your bottom dollar."
