I recently made a deal with barlows and while waiting listed my BX24 on clist online. I sold it to really nice guy who paid with a cashiers check but I did have to answer many stupid question and offers from other people. What was really interesting about the whole thing was that prior to a prospective buyer coming to my house I made sure the bathroom was clean in case they had to take care of business. I also made sure that I had a loaded gun handy in the garage in case I had to take care of business.

Good plan. If you had to pull out the gun, he would have needed to use the bathroom.

I sold my bx last year on tractorhouse and got $2800.00 more than the trade the dealer offered.I would say that just like cars your better off selling on your own.

I advertised here and sold my B3030 hsdc fel/snowblower, etc. To a member here at tbn. He was very happy with the transaction as was i. The trade in offer from the dealer was $5000. less than the private sale!

i have had tremendous success selling on craigslist . . . one just has to be firm and be prepared to put up with the tire kickers.
i sold my commercial toro z master mower in a week on c-list, and i didn't have the ability to post a picture. the tractor was 7 years old, low hour and i got nearly what i paid for it (my seed money for my BX)
for safety, if i ever let anyone in our house while selling my stuff, i would either be dead (by wifes' hand) divorced or living in the lawn building.

When my daughter was in the process of selling a pick-up recently, I encouraged her to do the deal at the bank, hers or theirs, to make sure she was in a safe environment and that she was getting good funds. With the software available today and a good printer, it is pretty easy to make checks and even a lot of reports of fraudulent certified and cashiers checks. We had someone take a bill I was paying by check out of our rural type mailbox and use it to create their own checks with our account on it. They looked very official and were accepted by two retailers. Luckily I checked the account on-line and noticed a problem with the sequence numbers and got it closed, but point being much easier than it was a few years ago.

Yes, agree Craigslist has worked well. Supposing a dealer offers you $9K for a trade in allowance and his retail price is $12K. A private seller is hard pressed to match that $12K a dealer can get. But, if through Craigs or a private sale, you could split the difference and get $10,500 then you have picked up a solid $1500. Worth it, imho. Most folks gotta work a few hours to make $1500. Take all necessary precautions, to be sure, but still, worth it.

Parking them out front with a sign, or a listing, likely sold 90% of our vehicles (dozens) privately, over the years, rather than wholesale to the dealer. A life time of savings, to be sure. Just takes a little "presentation" and some patience.

Interesting this thread. Since I posted a few hours ago, a fella came by and bought my BX. He was thrilled. Just what he was looking for. A little patience sometimes, mine took a month to sell. Very, very pleased. Just shows, once again I suppose, it can be done.

I had previously sold the hydraulic front blade and Quick Hitch in a day. That went a whole lot faster, understandably, as a big snow storm had rolled through south of us.
