Tractor
1968 JD 1520
Good Day to all, and Happy Veteran's Day!

I've recently acquired an old JD Tractor from an extended family member who's dad (the previous owner) passed a few weeks ago. Having a hard time decoding exactly which model it is since it has no hood. I do have a picture of the serial number, but no luck in decoding the Model. It is diesel powered with a Bush Hog 2425QT loader attached.

Could someone give me a hand and inform me of what model it is?

Can you post a photo of the tractor?

This is the only one I have at the moment. The tractor is still up on his farm about 1-1/2 hours away. I inspected it briefly after the funeral, and am awaiting a good time to go get it.

There haven't been that many Deere's lacking a front grille, so that's your clue. Trouble is, that one doesn't look like any of those I know (eg. 2510, 4040, etc.).

Your tractor appears to be a 1968 model 1020.

I'm steering towards a 1520 or 2020. Serial number, from what I can see, indicates it as a 1968 2020. I only got brief look at it and for the life of me do not remember how many cylinders I saw.

TY Tx Jim. the missing 0 ahead of the listed serial numbers was throwing me.

Also think a JD 1020 from Dubuque and pic confirms it is a 1020, to me. 4 cylinder diesel. Curious if that is a molded weight added ahead of the grill.

Explanation of 1520 serial# tag is shown below. I'm guessing that tractor in your post has a 3 cyl not 4 cyl engine.

Good on you Tx Jim
That fits well with the "grill" in the image, better than the 1020. The three cylinder should be easy to check out when seeing the tractor again.
I don't understand your statement. I still think tractor in your original photo is a 1020

Congratulations on being able to figure it out. I have a JD B that we believe is a 1954. The SN tag was painted when they restored the tractor. I can’t figure out what the SN tag says and we’ve tried quite a few things to remove the paint so we can see it - so far, it hasn’t been successful.

You have a very nice appearing model "B". JD B is definitely not a '54 as last model manufactured was a '52. Model 50 replaced model B.

Ok..

So, then this is an older tractor than what I was originally told. The tractor was my Father’s Uncle’s tractor that his daughter had refinished and I purchased it to keep it in the family (I can still remember when I was little and I could stand in the tires).

I’d love to get a serial # authentication through JD if I could figure out what it is.

I did. It didn’t work. I’m going to try again this spring.
