Put larger diameter tires on rear.

thanks dave, at this point (digging my heels after hearing "no" several times) i'm leaning away from a simple solution towards what i feel is the perferred solution, i really would prefer to either hop up the hydrostatic transmission (an adjustment screw somewhere, a simple alteration to an internal part?) or maybe even find some kind of after market gears to put in the differential.
*****, anyhow, how much is it going to cost me to buy new tires? and rims? i talked with the dealer today about putting on larger tires and i told him i don't want to do that because i was afriad it would affect the already MINIMAL deck lift height and his comment was that maybe larger diameter tires might (or would? can't remember his exact words) rub against the back edge of the mower deck in the raised position.

I do not believe there are any adjustments internal to speed up tranny. Taller tires on your rims may work as long as no clearance problems. Can you disconnect linkage from hydro pedal and see if there is more movement left in hydro linkage or is it maxed out. If there is movement left, maybe a longer/shorter linkage to use all movement . Good luck.

i calculate 6.162997 mph, how does that compare to other manufacturers? to other cub cadet series 3000 tractors?

for grins and giggles, and also to set a baseline to verify any changes i might've made, i wanted to clock how fast the wheels turned at full throttle and at the full travel, forward speed pedal. i had the tractor up on jack stands and put a strip of masking tape on both tires so i could count the rpm's. clocked it with a stop watch. i only took two samples, 98 and 97 rpm because i was doing it with the garage door closed because i didn't want to disturb the neighbors with the noise (it's late) and didn't want to kill myself with CO (taking the samples took a lot longer than just 2 minutes). the diameter of the tires, 66 3/4".

66.75 dia. x 97.5 rpm = 6508.125 inch/min. = 542.34375 ft/min., with that i get 6.162997 mph.

I'm impressed it occurred to you to do that!
I see you already have those big gnarly tires I was referring to.

don't guys race lawn and garden tractors?! how do they make them go faster?! i'm not wanting to cut my lawn at 40 mph but i'm just curious, how do the guys who race lawnmowers get them to go faster?! do they drop out the hydrostatic transmission and put in some kind of direct gearing?! they can't only just be adjusting their linkage adn putting on bigger tires! i can't imagine they're running their engines at 17,000 rpm to get their hydrostatic transmission and differential transmission to spin 10 times faster. like i said, i'm sure doing to my tractor what they do to theirs is NOT a good idea but i'm at least liking to know how in teh WORLD they do it, and from there maybe step it down multiple notches to get my tractor to go from 6.2 to 8.5, 9ish mph? :) just wondering.

oops. you know what i meant! ;-) not 66.75" DIAMETER, 66.75" CIRCUMFERENCE! LOL!

From what I saw on "racing lawn mowers; never saw a hydro unit raced; all were belt driven transaxles and pulleies were adjusted/changed to change ratios. Not sure if more RPM will speed up hydro much. pump pressures are regulated.

Right on. All the race machines use a gear drive. That engine on wheels is INSANE!
