May save you some coin if you drain the tank before he gets there. May ask first though

I'll ask. An electrical tech may not be happy doing a funky hose swap. I may need hydraulics to move it and to raise & lock the loader. But still have the old Hy-gard 2.5 gal containers clean&ready - couldn't stand to throw them away. Plus a 12 volt suction pump so I'm ready to salvage the oil out the filler.
No rush on this job. We still have the M59 Kubota for little jobs.

OK, an update just to satisfy any curious readers. The JD tech came up in his magic service truck and found the old ECU was bad but gauge panel was good. Thermostat and sensor also good. So the 310 got a new generation ECU put in and programmed. Plus a new main hydraulic feed hose, filter, and hyd. oil. Tech said it was just about the nicest old SG he had ever seen & a definite keeper. I think so too.

The new ECU works, new hose doesn't leak, and overall good time was had by all. Everything else works good; it needs nothing. The old 310 even seems to run even better than before if that is possible. A good visit by the mobile service tech.

I do plan someday to make up a patch cord - if I can find the proper connectors - and move the ECU away from the engine compartment and into the cab.

Good to hear!!! Had many service call that sounded the same as this one was. Glad to see it's fixed.

In regards to the relocation of the ECU I'd be careful with that. The CAN wires are very touchy with any added resistance from splices. I'd leave it where it is. If anything just move it to the left side frame rail off the engine and vibration.

Thanks for that warning. I'll reconsider. Yes, this is a later model 310SG with the ECU is mounted on the outside of the left side frame rail.
So are you saying that earlier in the 310SG model run they mounted the ECU on the engine!?

Where it is now does look like a decent mounting position, but something caused it to fail....and that made me think that in the cab would be better yet. Part of that thought was because scuttlebutt is there is/was a harness kit available from JD to move the ECU to the cab? Does anyone ever do that?

Heeding your warning, I'll probably leave it as is. If the new one lasts another 5K hrs. I'm pretty satisfied...

OK. Time for an update. It's been a year and a half on the new ECU and no problems with that. The 310 has run flawlessly since that was replaced.... Uh, I may have just jinxed myself.....
LATER:
This morning it was cold = mid 30s F so I plugged the engine heater in for a few hours then disconnected and it fired up immediately as usual. Sounds great. Used it slowly around the property for awhile moving some slash and then up on the to the slash pile & found out that it just would not rev up and pull strong. Not in 4wd, brakes not dragging, it just won't rev past about 1800 rpm. But it made it - slowly - no odd temperatures, noises, or smells, just not much power. Tranny, axles, rear end all sound normal. Very quiet.

Got home and played with it awhile. Idles and runs good up to about 1600 RPM and then starts to run rough & not rev. past that.
I'm guessing a fuel issue. All else seems fine. Will take a look at it when the weather warms up. Sure sounds good at low idle, though.
