Re: Service from dealer you didn\'t buy from?

Agreed. Once I decide where to buy (probably out of state at this point), I will be sure to visit the parts and service dept (not sales) of a couple of the dealers, and buy some filters, oils, etc from them, and I will probably need a tiller soon so will buy that locally -- that should make them happy enough. Heck they'll make more servicing in the lifetime of ownership than selling, so they should be more than happy.

You could always tell them your new to the area because you moved. You brought the tractor along with you to your new residence.

( I'm assuming its pretty much like cars where the service dept is seperate from sales -- service wants your business -- with warranty work, Kubota pays them. So, it shouldn't matter where you bought it -- I was just making sure since the sales guy was giving me attitude. )

Actually no, there is somthing called Flat rate where the manufacturer determines how much time it takes to fix a problem. Reguardless of what you end up putting into the machine that rate is what you get paid. On some more complex equipment we are luckly to recover 50% of what we put into it.

As a dealer, we don't make a stink about it because we still want the business for parts and paid service. However nearly everyone is going to protect their good customers first. If you sit at the salespersons desk to come to a middle ground and fail, don't be a jerk about it. If you do, you will be remebered. If the guy just see's it as a lost sale they probably won't remeber you later if you need service.

I bought out of state and have not had any problems with my dealer in-state. They did ask where it was purchased when I had a warrantee item for them, but the honored it just the same.

I don't think I was a jerk in any way -- bottom line is I'm saving over $2000 buying elsewhere. I told him he didnt have to beat the price I got, or even come that close, just make it so I don't feel stupid for not taking the better deal (ie I wouldn't mind paying the local guy $500 more than the out of state guy). I can always go to another area dealer for service if this place gives me a problem, and I'll buy my accessories/parts/equipment elsewhere.

Re: Service from dealer you didn\'t buy from?

I had a dodge truck that I bought from one dealer & had another dealer deny warranty work because I didn't buy from them. They used a loop hole& said they wouldnot repair under warranty because they had never seen that problem occur with any other truck. That they would be happy to repair at my cost. Chrysler factory rep backed the dealer up on this also.

Re: Service from dealer you didn\'t buy from?

If you have 3 local dealers I would approach all 3 of them with your quote and see if any one can come within 1,000 of the offer. If not Buy out of town. Look if you are willing to work with them they should do the same. If not the heck with them.

Yup I talked to all 3 -- they were all in-line with each other and $1500-$2000 above what I'm getting from a WV dealer -- not including the tax savings of another $1200. I always try to buy local and end up buying elsewhere (even when it doesnt save taxes).

My last four cars I have tried locally and ended up buying in the Boston area. I've literally saved $50k by doing this (when I register in VA I still pay VA tax so it's savings outside of tax...).

Re: Service from dealer you didn\'t buy from?

Here is my advice:

Buy from out of town!!!

My dealer told me that he would buy out of town for 1,000.

Buy a shop manual you can do all Maintenance yourself.

If you need small warranty stuff call your purchasing dealer they will ship it to you. (Check this out before buying) My dealer does it all the time.

If you have a serious problem (Unlikely it is a Kubota) you have a choice of transporting back to original dealer or dealing with the local guy (he will have to fix it)

( the Warranty is only for 2 years on tractor 1 on FEL and BH) so this is only an issue for 2 years.

No I do not normaly operate this way but a buck is a buck. and 2,000 is 2,000

My dealer is selling a lot of machines delivered in NY MA CT VT NH etc. His prices and service are excelent, and some dealers are not.
