Set up charges are set-up charges! They are always there one way or another. Some manufactures say they are giving away free loaders! Yep, need any swamp land?

Exactly! I know set-up seems trivial but to take a B-series tractor and loader from crate to ready to leave is a full 8 hour day. If the 3rd function is an add on, which I'm assuming it is since they weren't making factory kits for B's when I left the dealer in 2000, another 6 hrs. is about what it takes including custom making the hoses. I assembled more tractors, loaders, and hydraulic set-ups than I can count and I was the most efficient one in the shop.

As far as MSRP, higher volume dealers get better pricing and have more leeway than lower volume dealers. There are a lot of factors including whether the dealer had the machine long enough to have been paying flooring. I personally wouldn't include a separate line item for set-up, it creates too many situations like this. But trust me it would still be in the price.

(He would have had to buy it I personally wouldn't include a separate line item for set-up, it creates too many situations like this. But trust me it would still be in the price. (It is still a cost to someone be it dealer or customer as are all adds to items purchased

New Kubota tractors belong to Kubota and not the dealer as a general rule, unlike automobiles. All dealers big and/or small pay the same price. A dealer could maybe buy a new Kubota and may have to if not sold in a certain period of time or return it to Kubota or ship to another dealer. The dealer generally buys them and sells them to the customer at whatever price the dealer wants to ask when the deal is made. There are rebates and discounts that change frequently which the dealer is notified when they happen.
I bought one or two tractors that the price was lower a day or two later when I went in to sign the final paperwork due to Kubota informing dealer of a certain discount from one day to the next. One time Kubota sent the final paper work and discounted it from the price a couple of days before and said I had bought 2 or 3 in a certain period of time and classified me a Fleet buyer but it was just that one time. I keep asking for fleet price but alas no go.
Bottom line, dealer looks on computer at current price for a specific machine in stock or in warehouse, inputs buy offer and sees his cost and determines his sell price then based on his personal factors. Used equipment is bought by and owned by the dealer and nothing to do with Kubota. Barlows buys and sells a lot of used Kubotas. They buy from noncustomers and/so buying from a potential customer of a new machine (trade in) makes good sense for them which is one reason they can and do give decent trade in prices.
Different dealers on here to dispute this info and so far none have. Maybe they will this time.:)

He would also negotiate buying remaining inventory of the end of a model run for a reduced cost. We sold a lot of lease returns too, and there was always Ag show deals to be had when it was that time of year. Every tractor did not cost every dealer the same. Yes every tractor does belong to Kubota before it is sold, they are essentially on loan to the dealer. If the dealer does not sell that tractor in the allotted (flooring) time, the dealer starts paying interest on that loan to Kubota.

There are extenuating circumstances which at times the manufacture will extend different additional discounts for competitive bidding. Things like multi purchasers or a consideration for a problem piece or for a competitive user.

There is also "contract" price for those that qualify like state gvmnt, local, gvmnt, religious organizations, etc.:dance1: It usually carries a pretty substantial discount.

Like some other posters have mentioned, I ask for an all inclusive price when I buy-I tell the dealer I don't want to see any delivery, set-up, or notary fees added to the price. I have walked away from a couple of purchases where I went to sign the contract and these were added to the agreed on price.

I'm no dummy-I realize these things are an expense for a dealer-just figure it all in and give me a number!!

MSRP plus setup charges? Time to find a new dealer. 4th new tractor, they probably figure you won't go anywhere else regardless.

Well after doing all the math I think they are giving me a really good deal on my trades. Which is making up for the price of everything else. Even if I got say 15% off MSRP and I take that number off the value of my trade I think I would still be happy. What do you guys think my L3400DT with loader and backhoe with 415hrs and a B2710 with 72'mmm are worth on trade?

Just look out for extra sales tax (if applicable) with the higher purchase price...

I see you are in NY. Doesn't NYS calculate the sales tax due, if any, on the NET price after trade-in allowance is taken?
Whereas if you didn't trade in and sold private, then you would owe sales tax on the entire new purchase amount.
