300uguy,

"We have the best legislature money can buy. "

Yep --- and the big money of the country owns the whole deal.

If the little guys behaved in such a manner, they would be run out of town on a rail ------ instead of that, they vote their selves raises and go on vacation.

Where we sometimes have a breakfast coffee and sausage biscuit we watch a man across the road .Walk out to back of his car or pick-up there is a 2nd car and puts the same plate # on the vehicle. drives away. Been doing this now maybe 15 years.
State high way police and state police have noticed also. still does it.

Was in Jug town Mich. 2 years ago with pick-up and cattle trailer and stopped just for having out of state plates.
Guess he didn't have enough to do so called in and checked the trucks license.and insurance.
We were there for a dairy auction didn't ask if he checked them all.

Far better off then the socialist insurance that's mandatory in the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. As an example, for a 2010 Ford Fusion no restrictions in use and all the benefits they are prepared to offer you...$1400 per year. If you want to drive your 2009 F150 for fun, it'll cost you ...$1200 per year. If you want to ride your 1500cc cruiser, it'll cost you $1500 for a season that is 6-7 months long. I checked with the BC rates and they would want $2400 PLUS.

So don't complain about vehicle insurance when you don't have the right or opportunity to choose something other then what the government allows...

For the insurance on my 1994 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4, I pay $68 registration fee and $478 insurance for a total cost of $544 and that is after an insurance discount of $120 for no claims and good driving record. That's a lot of money for a truck that will be 18 years old come December..the month it was built in 1993.

A surprising number of decades ago when I lived in South Florida, something like 50% of the drivers where uninsured. It was unreal. I was paying $1,200 for a single car. I was under the age of 25 and it was a Camaro z28.

In NC if you drop your insurance, the state is notified and your registration is pulled. An officer still has to pull you over and run the plate though.

South Carolina is another state that has a high number of uninsured drivers. I would like to see more driver's checks done on the secondary roads.

Insurance companies should red flag the non-payers and send the police a list of names and addresses so they could go directly to the scofflaws and impound their vehicles. Think I read recently that the rate of uninsured drivers here in Michigan is close to 19 %.

I know in florida, if you cancel your car insurance, and don't provide the ins co with the info to another co that you are switching to, they notify talahassee.. and apparrently, if you have a DL, and a tag and no insurance.. something gets suspended, unless you fill out a waiver that the tag / vehicle is in 'storage'.

Mace, about 20 years ago I was griping about the high cost of insurance to a friend who was older and wiser than me, and he said:

"Just because you are driving an older car doesn't mean your insurance should be cheap, because in reality, you are actually paying for other people's NEWER cars....."

In Maryland they mail you a ticket if you let your insurance lapse and don't turn in the plates (and cancel your registration). I think it is $55 per day. However most of the people they mail them to can't or don't pay. Also they have to have probable cause to stop you.

They just continue to break the law since the state can't afford to inprison people for a minor charge.

Whenever your involved in a fender bender and the other person says "lets not involve the police, it will make my insurance go up" CALL THE POLICE immediatly they probably don't posess licenses and/or insurance.

On another note when I lived in Oklahoma in the early 70s insurance was optional and inexpensive. The year after it became mandantory the companies raised my premiums %300!
