I am sure it depends on the condition of the bed
They can be trusted - up to a point. You can't treat them like a chain pocket and expect them to hold anything more than fairly light, convenience type of loads.
I'm surprised a ratchet strap could pull a factory installed one loose.
A little rust will weaken them.
I'm surprised a ratchet strap could pull a factory installed one loose, from a solid bed in good condition, rust free.

It's a 2017 Silverado so should be relatively rust free. I was quite surprised when it let go, and instinctively ducked.. I wasn't even putting on a lot of tension when it snapped; just trying to snug the skis of the snowsled up to the front of the truck.

And GM makes fun of Ford when they " tool box drop " into a bed and it puts a hole in the bed???
:confused2:
4570Man makes fun of all of us when we dump a load of stone into our pickup bed.
You deserve it. For something built for “work” a pickup bed is useless. That test in discussion is about like comparing a glass mason jar vs a piece of pvc pipe to contain a grenade.
