That is a heartbreaker. My understanding is the truck driver wasn’t at fault but it would still be tough to deal with. I got t boned by a 16 year old who rolled through a stop sign about a mike from our house.

I hit a kid on a snowmobile. It messes you up. Any movement on side of road especially in town triggers a reaction. it sucks.

I can only imagine.

I had talked to the neighbors about their child driving up on the main road in his snowmobile and a few days later he got hit by a poor guy pulling a trailer full of snowmobiles. We lived a ways from town, so my sister RN and my bil EMT, who were visiting at the time, started transport to meet the ambulance on it's way out. Not a very good ending for either parties.

Do you ever drive a truck again?

I would be upset and question myself, like the next person put under such circumstances. But i'd rather have the wife, daughter, sister, stop driving a Spark before i'd stop driving a truck.

It depends on the driver. About a mile from where I live now, a local truck driver was just pulling out after getting a cup of coffee when a very drunk woman crossed the centerline, ran into him, and was killed. There was nothing he could do, he was going too slow to try and evade her. He got out of the truck and never drove again.

The woman had left her father’s house, he’d taken her keys but she started cursing him so he threw them back at her... and had second thoughts when it was too late.
He took off after her and came up on the accident just after it happened.

Another trucker was overloaded going through town. His load hit an overhead bridge knocking a log off the top, killing a woman. Yet he still drives, and still runs way overweight loads. (130K)

The trucker who killed my aunt and uncle in 1963 had been in several accidents before, and finally was killed himself in another afterwards.
Some people just don’t care. There have been two people in this town killed by the same driver. The first, he pulled out to pass a woman as she was making a left hand turn. He said “ I thought she was going to let me by”. About 18 years later he lost control of his vehicle in a snowstorm, left the road and hit somebody who was snow blowing his driveway. In a town of around 200 people, that’s not a good statistic.

I've been told that next to New York City drivers, Mainers are number 2 for bad.
