Towing with a Prius is Not Recommended by Toyota. But it can be done with light loads. Here is a video of a not so light load.

Likely a 2 year lease.... so long as you can Make Your Problem, Somebody Else's, it's not a problem.....

Around here, even regular VW transmissions are a lot of money to repair/replace. Good idea to check with any small car, but with a Prius, if I saw any evidence that a trailer hitch had been used, I'd pass on the car.

On the road, even just loaded with people, to me a Prius doesn't look oversprung in the rear - OK I'd expect for intended use, but not trailering.

New hidden hitch idea... works great! (this is not my photo, but I thought it funny)

funny.

While his underpinnings are way inadequate. 'the goose' adapter he is using to go from 5th whl rails to gn is actually a good piece.

i have a 'the goose' in my f450 that has 5th wheel rails. best couple hundred I spent on that truck.

You should have seen us coming back from Georgia the other day in Margie's Prius. We went up and cleaned out her uncle's shed, and had the car as loaded as we could get it. There was an 8' ladder I just couldn't leave behind. I laid down the right side of the back seat, and reclined the front seat to make it fit, so Margie had to sit behind me in the back seat. {where she held two antique cake plates in her lap all the way home} There was two 5 gallon buckets of tools behind her, while the smaller, lighter stuff got put between the rungs of the ladder, so most of the weight was on the left side. But as long as I kept it under 70 mph it handled alright. Everywhere we stopped, folks ask us if we were moving. I wish I would have taken a picture before I got it unloaded.

A friend of mine has to keep reminding his girlfriend that the payload on her Prius is not that high. Nothing she likes better than to take a carload of people down to the USA to shop, and totally cram every concievable space with bought items. I don't think she has a Thule case on the roof, but I wouldn't even want to joke about that with her - she'd have another 400# stuffed in there too !

Pushing any piece of equipment hard is one thing, if you are paying attention, and know what you are doing. Many people don't drive like that.... then they later wonder why things break..... :confused3:

Good business for the car and auto parts companies though !

Our Prius is an 05. {and has 110K miles on it} Back when we first got it there wasn't many of them around. When we would go to the Sam's Club in Panama City we would buy a lot of stuff because we didn't get down there very often. Once we got four of the six foot shelving units. People in the parking lot stopped to watch us pack them into the car. They were amazed at the amount of cargo it would hold. We never put too much weight in it, but have often filled up every square foot of space available. It has been a good car to us, and it never felt like a small car until I got my 13 Camry last year. Now when I drive the Prius, it does feel small. But Margie loves it. She doesn't like to drive anything else.

I think the Prius is a good product, many people seem happy with theirs. It looks like the payload on the larger (original) Prius is about 900# - so it's not realistic to haul 5 people in, and a lot of "stuff".

With only 2 people, as you described, there's often a lot of household stuff that needs moving that is bulky, but not that heavy. A hatchback is a great design, for a small platform.

And... as somebody posted recently.... you can hang really long stuff out the back, and have somebody lie on the box to balance it !

I gotta find my picture. I used to ride a wheelchair. With my wife on my lap, my yellow lab Service Dog on a shelf behind the seat and pulling one of those two place sport strollers back of that full of groceries. And no, I wasn't over loaded.
