Here's another example of poor judgement. A tractor trailer (13'6") drives under a railroad bridge (10'9"). Driver claims he didn't see the ten warning signs and flashing lights before hitting the bridge. This was also a Volvo tractor. This low bridge gets hit on average two times per year. Not long ago a coach double decker tour bus hit the bridge killing several people. The state had put up multiple signs, low hanging signs that the vehicle will hit before the bridge, warnings, flashing lights, laser beam triggers to flash additional warnings yet it still gets hit. Second pic is of the tour bus being removed. The bus driver was fiddling with his GPS unit when he hit the bridge. Some people just don't pay attention.

Driver knew the bridge and wasn't lost!

From:
Trucker Destroys Historic Bridge Because She Didn't Know How Many Pounds Six Tons Was

Ms. Lambright was aware of the iron bridge stating she had driven on it several times in her personal vehicle and was also aware of the posted signage "No semis, weight limit of 6 tons." When asked by Paoli Police why she continued through the bridge knowing the weight limit was only 6 tons she admitted to not knowing how many pounds that was. She was advised the weight of the vehicle at the time of the crash was close to 30 tons.

UMM crazy. I would think any trucker would know what a ''ton'' is.. How do they get a licence.lol

There's a railroad underpass near me, that trucks get stuck under all the time. They have put up signs, height markers, rumble strips, more signs and the truckers ignore them and keep getting stuck.

Neighbor's nephew just got a ticket for driving his super duty Ford Pickup on 580 through Oakland.

About 9 miles of the Freeway is restricted and has signage stating no trucks over 4.5 tons.

There are onramps without signage and this also adds to the confusion...

CHP writes a lot of tickets... never use to write pickups but with the higher GVW just about all the heavy duty or super duty are over... not a cheap ticket either... plus points on insurance I would imagine.

Restriction History - Route 580

That would be a heavy SuperDuty unless it is outfitted with racks and tools

Brother just ordered a Diesel F250 and he said the GVW is 9980... he opted for the factory Derate to 9980

Driving the freeway to grandma's house with his new truck would make him a lawbreaker...

The law was around long before Pickups had such high GVW ratings.

My G20 Chevrolet Van is still ok at 8800 GVW

And further into the article:

"Lambright, who got her CDL earlier this year, said she wasn稚 comfortable backing up her Volvo truck, so she just chanced it on the bridge."

Slap her again with the limit signs.

How the heck do you get a CDL without being able to back the thing up?

So the driver was Amish, had only recently left that protected world, had taken a CDL course where nobody made sure she understood weight limit calculations or how to back up a big rig, and her dispatcher or supervisor apparently didn't warn a rookie driver about the bridge....yeah there's plenty of blame to pass around and the lawyers will be happy....and, she's a moron.
