Maybe to clear the bed on turns and grades?

Looks like a Terramite?

I posted a similar picture a while back....another 64 pallets on the back of a pickup. At the very least this is 2,000lbs and may be as much as 2,800lbs.

The sod place here pays $5 for a pallet that's correct dimensions. So, he's going through all that trouble and risk for $320? I guess that's a decent daily wage if nothing bad happens.

There are a couple of guys that run around with pallets stacked like this. I suspect they're picking them up at the pallet supply place and transporting them to local companies based upon where I see them. There are also a few guys I see with 3/4 or 1 ton pickups with gooseneck trailers or medium duty straight trucks hauling pallets in the same areas...obviously there's no problem with those setups.

Looks to me like the bungee is holding the tailgate closed. TG is probably not able to be latched because the load is too far back.

No its a Chevy tailgate. 99% chance I'd don't work. Trust me. About any chevy I've owned got the tailgate strapped cause the latches are junk

Lube it once in a while. My 21 year old Michigan Chevy had a perfectly working tailgate when I traded it 3 months ago.

And this is what begs the question: "What, aside from gravity and friction, is keeping that mess of materials from falling out the back of that truck?" :D
