A guy in my city has a 95/96 Ranger with dual rear wheels. [...] The interesting thing about it is that he has the fender wells that match the truck paint specifically for that truck. Must have been an aftermarket part because it's the only one I've ever seen.

And as far as people doing stupid projects to cars, I'm still thinking about putting a B4 diesel in my F-150 just because.

The easiest way I can think of to get dually fenders for a ranger would be to grab a couple of step-bed sides and put them on a regular box. Either that, or just split the box and weld in patch panels. Same thing, sort of. More of a creative re-use of factory parts than actual aftermarket.

I remember seeing a 67-68 or so F100 converted to a 3-cylinder detroit during the '73 oil crisis. I think it must have been more of a short term "can we do it" project than a serious conversion, it wasn't around for very long.

Hope they are not going too far..
It actually looks like it might be balanced properly. Those small mini-exes can be 2,000lbs or so too. Which would put it within range of some sedans tow ratings. I doubt the axle on such a small trailer is rated for the task, but it could be a 2,000 or 3,500lbs rated one. I could almost see a rental yard using a trailer that small (assuming proper axles & tires) so more people could tow/rent the machine.

Those bungee cords aren't up to the task & that tire is either under inflated or over capacity, if not both.

The rims are 4 lug with 12" wheels with a 1000 lb rated axle.

We all KNOW that those ratings are so conservative, once I put a T34 tank on one of those!

(caveat: no, I didn't, and no, you shouldn't guess, etc etc)

I'd say it's a pretty good bet that one way or the other they are not going too far.....

Good point!! Hopefully they won't get any innocent bystanders caught up in the crash.
That trailer looks like the 1200 GVWR unit sold by Northern Tool and many others.

It looks a lot like the HF trailer. In either case it’s not adequate. I’ve seen rentals with really small trailers, but they’re built heavy.

WOW - around here you can't tow ANYTHING from the local rental yard without a ¾ ton truck. When I went to get a stump grinder (small walk behind) they checked my truck tome sure it was at least a ¾ ton and had the correct hitch (6.7 Cummins Ram). They are every very picky.

When we rented a chipper last year somebody hooked it up to our pickup while were processing the order. I looked at the bald tires and crossed my fingers, we had already promised my sister we would clean up the mess we made cutting trees the last time that we were there. After towing it about 50 miles we started it up, only to discover that the chute was missing several bolts; it was only luck that it didn't fall off as we were travelling up the highway. My brother ran to the hardware store and we got it bolted together and running. When we returned it that day we got a pretty good discount after telling them what happened.
