Lots of masonry contractors use beater trucks...they are something to send the gopher in for needed materials from HD etc., etc...

That could be very true. And it’s surely a common thing to do.

For me personally I seldom send anyone to get materials for a job site. And not in their vehicle. If I do not trust em to drive my vehicles I sure do not need to have them driving for me. If their on the clock you can be held responsible for their driving issues such as accidents, even if driving their own personal vehicle. Just something for people to be aware of.

In the scenario I cited it would be prudent to maintain comprehensive fleet coverage for the company...it doesn't pay to keep a gopher it they can't go for stuff...

I always asked for a certificate of insurance from anybody working for me before they could use their vehicle, and also had an umbrella policy to cover myself "just in case."

My little HF type 4x8 trailer has hauled a bunch of bagged concrete. But, I place it carefully, spreading 12 80# bags in 4 rows of 3 centered over the axle, and only 1 bag high. Yeah, it's kind of a pain to load and unload, but I try to make sure I get it all home.

I had a hitch installed on my Hyundai Accent and tow a 5x8 single axle Tractor Supply trailer. I carried 24- 80# bags distributed as you said about 15 miles.
I ran 50psi trailer tires, most weight over axle, I'm guessing 400# or so tongue weight.
It was fine.

I often carry thirty 80 lbs bags of concrete in my F250. I do not even notice it, under the rating and the bed is about level.

Okay I will come clean. I occasionally load, for a personal project, cement bags or concrete blocks on the back end of my F150 but always so I can close the tailgate. Yeah not forward enough to maximize load... getting it forward of the axle. But hey I’m lazy and like to grab from the rear without having to reposition the load.

I look at the springs (bed sag) to determine a ‘safe’ load.

1000# in a car is no worse than 3 250# passengers and 250# of luggage in the trunk...
