I saw this in a for sale add yesterday. View attachment 647353

The local trailer importer guys here used to have pictures of all their trailers loaded like that in their ads. They had wood and bricks under the gravel so it looked like 2 or 3x as much in the trailer.

Someone I know bought one of their dump trailers and it didn’t have enough power to dump with more than a foot of gravel in it.

That twine works pretty well if done right.
If you can get the nose of the plywood sheet down to keep the wind from getting under it. Nose-up, it's a sail. With enough lift at highway speed to break cheap twine.

Back when I was a scrawny carpenter it was spooky to carry sheets of plywood across a sloping roof on a windy day. Visions of flying off like Mary Poppins.

That is the part that scares me.

I carry 4X8 sheets in the bed of my truck frequently with no problem. I have a toolbox and as long as the front end is under it no air gets to it to lift it out. I would never carry a sheet on the roof tied with twine or anything else.

I was behind a guy with a landscape trailer loaded with several sheets of plywood - not tied down in any manner. At about 40 mph the wind got under the top sheet and it lifted up and sailed over the tailgate. Landed in the road. The guy didn't even notice and kept going. I always wondered how many sheets he still had by the time he arrived wherever he was going.

I am guessing you dropped back enough to avoid the flying plywood.

At a stop light behind a cement truck. When he proceeded down the road I could see chunks bouncing on the rear fenders, so let him get lots of room before I followed. Driver behind me was in a hurry so passed my and tucked in behind the cement truck waiting for an opportunity to pass due to oncoming traffic. Wasn't long before he pulled over onto the shoulder. I looked back as I passed and could see the cracked windshield. Slowed his day quite a bit.
