Yesterday we hauled a 32,000 pound loader leashed down with three rusty 5/16" chains. No idea what grade.

I worked a case where a guy was killed when he was trying to retrieve an item like that from a traffic lane on a highway. He was ran over twice.

Oh man bad memories.

We visited inlaws in Modesto, the town that was represented in American Graffiti. At a stoplight I noticed a severely agitated tweaker woman bouncing in the seat of a shabby Corvette to my right. A few blocks later I was in front of her, and merged into the traffic on my left as I approached a car stopped in the slow lane, that had kids to its right talking to the standing car's occupants. Corvette tweaker woman impatiently accelerated right into the back of the stopped car and hit it very hard, maybe 40 mph. Beware the tweakers.


Incidentally for clearing debris out of the road, Caltrans trains its maintenance workers to grab the object and keep running to the center divider or the yellow centerline without pausing, or turning back. They get out of the traffic lane quicker, avoid a possible clumsy fall if they were to reverse direction, and most of all, their motion is more easily understood and avoided by the approaching motorist.

It’s probably more that that. I’m pretty sure those are 16” tires on the trailer so they’re only 10k axels.

Not sure the weight of the skidder, or the capacity of the trailer, but I did see the truck was a 550 when we stopped at a red light. However at the next red light, I was stopped a good 5-7 seconds before he blew through it.

If you had brakes on the trailer which I would be kinda surprised if it does that load wouldn’t be bad.
