Believe me, I am on board with your thinking, it's just studies have shown that threat of punishment doesn't alter behavior. Now, whether that study was done by a right or left thinking person/group "MAY" have some bearing on th results.

Pulling their licenses doesn't work either. They just keep driving without it. Sometimes all that we can do is stay out of the way.

Actually. I hate to repeat this, because it's not what I want to believe. But studies have shown that harsh penalties NO NOT deter people from doing wrong.

And I think some have been done showing that the surety of punishment did work.

So, the overloaded trailer with bricks guy, let's say he had a trouble free trip. But, what if something broke and it killed a family member of yours? Do you think the brick guy would learn anything at the cost of your family member? How would you feel? Is it fair that someone has to die so the driver gets penalized?

For the amount of weight you guys can tow in the US, I'm very surprised that you don't need to have driving lessons with trailers and theoretical lessons about all stuff that a trailer involves, like weight ratings, load placement, safety aspects, etc.

Seems like anyone can just hook a trailer to a truck and pull 20,000 lbs without even realizing or understanding what's behind all of that. And then we see stuff like the brick guy and others shared in this thread.

What if he DID make two trips and something broke & he KILLED one of your family members?
Would you wish he had done it all in that uneventful first trip?

I agree with this. Unfortunately there are far too many people who want the nanny/control side of things. :-(

It really boils down to the opposing philosophies of either hold people responsible if/when they cause problems or put up guiderails such that nobody can ever cause problems. I'm of the believe that if you do the former it will eventually train folks to self-regulate enough to not be a major issue.

I have to go with you and IT on this one. Well said!

You are sounding more like the nanny state than the independents we are.

And if you really are a Hoosier you should be able to read and understand the whole thread, and all comments that I have made.
