In some states like Texas, they still have the death penalty for heinous crimes. I'd say that's about as severe a penalty there is for a crime, yet murders still happen there daily. I think the point is more, if you are more likely to get caught then maybe you'd be less likely to try something.

You're exactly correct.

Take a speed trap for instance. People who know the jurisdiction strictly enforces speed limits at a certain location will always slow down, sometimes even if they are at the speed limit to avoid the possibility of getting a ticket even if the fine is nominal. Only those who don't know will get caught and then they know.

But even when Texas passed the cell phone bill with a $200 fine people quickly realized most jurisdictions would put up the signs at city limits and make a cursory attempt at enforcement early and then stop. So, very few people worry about compliance with the cell phone law even though the fine is much more than the fine for speeding 10 mph over the limit.

This used to be a fun thread to read. Not so much anymore.
I've noticed that whenever a thread like this goes on for awhile, someone has to steer it into the ditch with controversial topics like government policy, crime, politics or whatever. Seems like it is best to not take the bait, ignore the off topic lurch and keep on posting relevant stuff we all enjoy. My 2 cents.

Exactly - time to move on and let it go. Enough arguing, let get back on track before a formally fun and interesting thread gets shut down. THANKS

Thread title is "Share Pics of People Hauling or Towing Something Wrong". I don't see anything about 'carrying' .

Gotta be a set up though. There must be some rolling gear under there some where.
13 people pictured, probably over double that. 30-50 people @ 100lbs per person gives you 3,000-5,000lbs of lift capacity. Double that if there are people inside & outside. Not sure how much a shed or small barn weighs, but its not unreasonable to move it by hand if you can really that many hands.

From Facebook. Not really hauling & while wrong & sketchy, its ingenious at the same time if it actually works. At least it's not likely to hurt anybody more that a few feet away. FB_IMG_1593882616759.jpg

Normal tongue weight on the trailer empty: 500lbs
Tongue weight as pictured: 250lbs

Couldn't winch it any further forward on the trailer or winch it on fat end forward. It towed fine home the 2 miles at 30-40mph on country roads. Got a little twitchy at 40.

My weigh safe hitch is badass. Love knowing exactly what my tongue weight is for normal load balancing. Or knowing to go slow when I'm about to do something stupid.20200702_202901.jpg

I'd like to know if it broke the lug nut free before it broke anything else.

Sometimes things aren't as they appear. I was getting gas today and a pickup went by laden with brush, apparently held down by luck. When he stopped for a red light though I saw that it was actually well strapped, they were just hidden under a couple of branches. It was kind of disappointing to see them, I had almost started believing in magic. :D

It does seem there is no end to reasons not to do something... "Legal" is subject to change and interpretation... the last several months proved this in spades... on and off the highway.
