Biggest excavator I worked under was a 670 Hitachi. Two scoops per box and we were loaded with 28 yards in less than a minute. I can't imagine that machine crossing that bridge or traveling the roads up to the bridge on either side.
Hauling that stuff is a challenge. That's why I don't do it anymore. I would rather stick with normal semis. Also taking the trailer apart and putting it together and chaining stuff down in rain and mud gets old.

When the high wind warnings are posted for no empty or high profile vehicles, it's for real. Just south of Cheyenne, Wyoming. One northbound at the very beginning is going over, then the southbound one for the big show.

Was going from Spokane, WA to Lewiston, ID back in '90 when I crested a hill and the back trailer on my empty double set of 28's picked the tires up off the road from a gust of wind. It didn't go over but I sure puckered hard on the seat. Over the rise a bit down the road was a rest stop in a low area. I pulled in there and sitting parked in the rest stop you could see the trailers wagging back and forth. I called my dispatcher and told them I was hold up until the wind died down. The guy got all snarky with me on the phone and I told him "The keys are in it, you know where I'm at. Come get it. YOU drive it. I'm sitting here until it dies down."

Just wondering - would jamming on the trailer brakes bring that empty trailer around to an angle with the truck, and avoid flopping over as they went off into the median? Seems like that might be less damage.

I darned near lost a small travel trailer, light but tall with with an upper bunk, behind an AMC Eagle. I came out of a downhill cut and caught a severe crosswind like that truck. Northern Nevada desert, night time, no one around for miles. I think the trailer pushed my back end sideways. All I remember now was getting pushed sideways, swerving the width of both lanes and full throttle down the straight grade for a moment to get the trailer back behind me. After another mile or two, a sign: Caution High Winds.

That's probably even worse today. Everyone wants their free overnight shipping, but you better not drive too fast to get it there. Or too slow, in the wrong lane, in front of the wrong motorist or,,,

I think that is a bit more than a gust!

A couple years ago coming across western Kansas we saw 4 or 5 semi trucks tipped over. You just always hope one doesn’t tip over on you.

Ya you just need to drive that semi like your driving a sail boat, tack in and out of the wind. Says the non-sailor/non-truck driver.

Same thing here. Took a lower bridge over part of lake Ontario. High profile warning so taller bridge was closed (you'd have time to call 911 yourself if you went off that bridge).
I stopped at the lower bridge to check it out because they had just dragged a blown-over semi off that one on it's side because they couldn't stand it up. Police started letting trucks over, so I went too. Loaded, no problem.
Took the same way back after delivery. Empty. Gust from behind at an angle and trailer wheels on one side lifted probably a foot. Floored it to get down the rest of the bridge.
Un-nerving is how I would describe it.
I was on the "short side" of the wind too meaning if it flipped me I would have to rely on the guard rail to keep me out of the water.
