I bought a used Shaver HD-10 post driver for the back of my '73 International 656D. The Shaver isn't too old as far as farm equipment goes, it's a 1998.
I hooked it up on the 3pt hitch, plumbed the 1 1/4" return line back to the tractor's resevoir and plugged it into a good rear remote. (I have dual remotes on the back of this tractor and both work, tested by my 2000 loader.)
Now, drum roll.. try to lift pounder head... and music stops. Nothing. The cylinder will not move the head up. But, the cylinder will not allow the head to fall, unless I push the valve to allow it to drop. So, in my mind the seals in the cylinder are good or else it wouldn't hold the pounder head in the air. I also tested the drop cycle and everything seems to move freely. The cylinder will even stop the head mid way down the fall. When I dump the valve, oil does shoot out the return line back into the sump, so oil is making it into the cylinder but obviously not enough oil or pressure.
Does anyone have any experience with this pounder? It doesn't seem as though it's the tractor... it's a pretty big tractor for this pounder. I believe the pump is rated at 15 GPM w/dual remotes. Also, the lines are "stock" Shaver, so I don't think anyone put a smaller high pressure line on it, but again I could be wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas? Your experience and insight is appreciated as this Saturday is in the books, score being Shaver 1, Bill 0.
Thanks!
Bill
